Hi Janet You said that "In 1891 William Yeates is living back in Bristol with a daughter Elizabeth 6yrs and a son Thomas 4yrs (no records of their births have come to light yet in my searches and I have tried all spelling variants I can think of)) and at the same address is a widow Elizabeth Clifford ( her husband George died 1883) with her 6 children." William and his wife Emily both were 'married' according to 1881 census, so my guess is that he was actually working away that night. But after Elizabeth's husband died in 1883, may be things changed. Perhaps Emily was unable to have children, and William wanted to be a father. Perhaps William was leading a double life. There's a birth for an Elizabeth Annie Clifford reg Barton Regis in Mar qtr 1885 on FreeBMD, but I cannot spot a nearby Thomas birth (I haven't checked 1891 census, she may belong to a different family.) Hi Caroline, I was just checking my spam before emptying the box and found your message. Thank you for replying with suggestions. I rather think William was leading a double life and I believe the Elizabeth Annie Clifford you mention belonged to another branch of the family in Bristol. I have sent for a marriage certificate which might be for the Thomas Yeates born abt 1887 which took place in Warrington and within a space of a couple of years I see there is a marriage of an Elizabeth Yeates also Warrington. I know this isnt going to tell me the name of the mother but I shall at least know if Thomas and Elizabeth survived. Thanks again for your response Janet ----- Original Message ---- From: C Rihan <csrihan@btinternet.com> To: bristol_and_district@rootsweb.com Sent: Tue, 11 May, 2010 12:36:22 Subject: Re: [B&D] Frustrations, frustrations!
