Sad to say, I've always been far more interested in getting Birth and Marriage Certificates even though I have always advocated looking for deaths, burials and even more importantly - Probate. However, having obtained all the Birth and Marriage Certificates for my family over the last 10 years and with nothing to spend my hard earnt cash on, apart from subscriptions, I decided the time had come to order more death certificates. So far two arrived this morning and one created a mystery for me...surely that's what it's all about! One of them showed the name of the informant was a daughter but it wasn't a name I recognised. I realised who the daughter was but I couldn't find the marriage. So, putting my brains into first gear, I realised that this daughter must have married twice. As a result, I looked for a first marriage, checked that one, found him and then found his death and using her first married name, I was able to find a second marriage. Just a small matter but it was important. As we all know, Death Certificates don't really give us very much information but even a little useful clue like this made it worth the £7 it cost. Another 4 Certificates to come later this week...will there be another mystery for me to solve? No, they are not direct descendants but it has corrected an error on my tree and one day I might even find some living cousins from this branch.
