    3. Uriah ANDOW was transported for life in 1828, eventually received his Ticket of Leave in 1849 (IIRC) and was free to travel wherever he wanted except back to England. He'd married Eleanor (or Ellen) MARSH in 1822 and they had a son, George, baptised 27 March 1826. Eleanor had a dau, Emily Maud, baptised 15 June 1834. There is no sign of Uriah after he received his ToL. Ther is no sign of Eleanor (or Ellen) after 1834. There's no sign of Emily Maud after 1834. George is living with his grandfather, Richard ANDOW, in 1841 and John and Elizabeth SMITH. In 1851, George is still living with John and Elizabeth and is referred to as their nephew. That's the last known sighting of George. Now, did Uriah make his way back to England via another country, collect his family and move them to another county or country, changing his name in the process? Did he in some way contact his family and ask them to join him? Did Uriah die? Did Eleanor marry again elsewhere? FreeBMD don't have a marriage for Emily Maud between 1850 and 1900. What happened to George? Some of Uriah's extended family ended up in Bristol and the surrounding area, one of whom married into another vanishing family! -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton and Greinton, SOM Asst OPC for Ashcott and Shapwick, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk

    3. Hi Charani, In case you haven't seen these - your Uriah gets a mention on page 7 as having had a Ticket of Leave cancelled in 1843. http://gazette.slv.vic.gov.au/images/1843/N/general/44.pdf And here - for his conditional pardon on page 2 http://gazette.slv.vic.gov.au/images/1848/N/general/135.pdf I didn't see any reference to requesting permission for his family to come here. You could try posting to AUS-PT-JACKSON-CONVICTS rootsweb list. The woman who runs that list, Lesley Uebel, is THE specialist in convict records. She can probably tell you what colour his hair was. Good luck.
