In 1912 he became a junior clerk to Mr. Frederick Winterbotham solicitor, at his offices in John Street where his employer was clerk to the old Board of Guardians, clerk to the Stroud RDC and superintendent registrar. In the First World War from 1915 to 1920, Mr. Bishop served with the Gloucestershire Regiment in India, and on his discharge from the Army was appointed vaccination officer. This was his first official appointment. A year later he became Registrar and Relieving Officer for the Bisley sub-district including Bisley, Chalford and Miserden. In 1927 he took over from Mr. Edward Holland, Registrar at Stroud, who was retiring." My grandfather served as Registrar for Stroud until his retirement in 1961. Regards, Jeremy
