    3. Pat, Glad you saw the SAGE - makes me realize how important it is to look for all these "incidental" connections... (such as servants; witnesses on marriage certificates; informants on death certificates...) Re HANCOCKs at Salt House: Robert John Hurley HANCOCK was my great-grandmother's brother. He seems to have worked his way up.... In 1851 census, his address was Albion Dock, Bristol; occupation "Clerk to shipbuilder". In 1861 census, his address was 1 Albion Park, Redcliff, Bristol; occupation "Cashier in shipbuilding yard". In 1871 census, his address was 2 Bagdad Terrace, Redland Park, Westbury on Trym, Bristol. His occupation: "Shipping manager". In 1881 census, his address was Salt House, Clevedon, Somerset; and his occupation: "Ship owner and shipping manager". In 1891 census, still at Salt House; occupation "Ship builder and ship owner." He died in 1900. (there's a memorial plaque to him in St Andrews Church, Clevedon.) [I didn't yet find the 1901 census record - I guess his widow Martha?] I don't know the circumstances of his move to Salt House: did he simply buy it? (as a more prestigious move on his upward path: Albion Dock to Westbury on Trym to.....). did he have family connections in Clevedon?? [I believe there were other HANCOCKs living in Clevedon...]. His younger sister Mary migrated to St Louis Missouri USA, where she married my g-grandfather Albert James HOME in 1873. I also have a little information about Robert Hancock's father John HANCOCK [1802 - 1841], and his mother Mary Morgan JONES [abt 1803 - 1886]. If any of this is of particular interest to anybody on this list, please let me know.... It was a very productive meeting again, with lots of suggestions for future research and great to meet up with old and new friends. Have just had a look at the 1881 census for the Salt House at Clevedon and realised that the choice of meeting place was well made - not only were there connections with the HANCOCK family within the group but also a Martha SAGE was a servant there - any connection Ian? The HANCOCKS were there for many years - members of the family were resident in 1881, 1891 and 1901 - They must have been very settled there.
