It's a pity FreeREG doesn't allow a global search the way FreeBMD does. The only Waterloos in England are in London and Liverpool, plus Waterlooville in Hampshire, not forgetting the one in Belgium near Anderlecht which we can't entirely rule out even though it's unlikely. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Greinton and Clutton, SOM Asst OPC for Ashcott and Shapwick, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk http://www.savethegurkhas.co.uk/
There is an area of Frome called Waterloo. Nowadays, the area has a post code BA11 3JB and there is a road called Waterloo. Hi Pat, Thanks for this information. It confirms my suspicion that our Elizabeth DAVIDGE was born in the Frome area. Now I just have to find the correct one as I have several born in that timeframe. Hi Charani, Perhaps the Waterloo in question was in London. I do have a DAVIDGE family very early on in London, but searching the PRs is difficult as there are so many churches and people didn't seem to stick to one church. I'm plowing my way through many parishes which I have on CD looking for DAVIDGE and other specific surnames in London. But I still have to rule out there being a small village, now incorporated into a larger one, in Somerset. Frome is a likely candidate and I will be posting to the Frome Yahoo! Group for information on Waterloo. All this new information is really fantastic. After years of dormancy, all of a sudden there is an interest in the surname DAVIDGE from all over the place, including people I have been corresponding with for ages who never mentioned the surname before, lol. I believe you are most interested in the SAGE connection, so when I get that sorted out, I'll send you what I have. Jim Goodman has been a real gem in doing all this research, as I don't believe he has any interest in the surname.
