Yes Liz, I saw that myself, I think it must be him as it coincides with the time when I believe that the Navy laid off a great many sailors. At the birth of one of his children around that time he was down as a labourer, the only reference to him not being a sailor, subsequent children, he obviously got another ship (I only wish I knew which one). It would be logical that with a family he would be hard up. he got 6 months if I remember correctly. All these little snippets keep adding up don't they! Meryl
Hi Meryl Yes, I too thought that must be him. People stole to support their families. I think it was only 3 months. Perhaps he got another ship and jumped ship at some foreign port? I was hoping that there might have been more about him in the newspapers. I tried every spelling to find more about him. Many of my LOCKETTs were in the newspapers - shipwrecked on more than one occasion and then I found one of my NEWBERYs - I got his death certificate which said he was accidentally shot so I wondered what happened and the Coroners report was mentioned.
