    1. [B&D] OWEN family of Frenchay early 1800s

    3. Hello All I wonder if anyone on the list is searching for OWENs. I have a family who lived in Frenchay in the early 1800s. The earliest links are a George OWEN who married a Mary JONES at Winterbourne, on the 6th March, 1783. This couple had four children -- Diana, George, Mary and John who were baptised at Mangotsfield from 1783 to 1789. John OWEN born 1789 was a Brightsmith and he had moved to Bath where he continued in his trade and married in 1816. He and his family subsequently migrated to Sydney, Australia. John OWEN's death cert. said he was born in Frenchay, Wales, which was backing two horses, but perhaps his father was Welsh. In Australia he said he was Unitarian by religion. I am keen to find out where the George OWEN who married at Winterbourne in 1783 and his wife Mary JONES came from. They do not seem to have been born/baptised in Winterbourne and nor do they fit many other local parishes where OWENs were settled at this time. Any suggestions welcome. Regards Jill Forster Sydney
