Whilst trying to find the death of my Percy PADFIELD, I found one in 1936 for Percival Ernest PADFIELD b Q3 1904 Bristol, son of Thomas and Annie. Thomas was a police constable in 1911, born in Somerset (place unknown) and married to Annie, a Canadian resident. They'd lost one of their two children. In 1901, Thomas was again given as a police constable but now born in Wiltshire! Annie was born in America but a British Citizen. They had a son, Wilfred, with them who was born in 1899 and a visitor, Elsie ORAM, 17, born Stoke St Michael. I've found Thomas and Annie's marriage Q4 1897 in Bristol. Annie was Annie Elizabeth ORAM. Elsie is most likely Annie's sister but I haven't investigated the ORAM line yet. I'll save that headache for tomorrow ;)) Thomas is given as Thomas Albert PADFIELD when he marries. There's no birth reg for Thomas Albert PADFIELD but there is one Q3 1872 Keynsham for a Thomas Alfred PADFIELD. Same person? In 1891, Thomas is apparently living with his Radstock born grandmother, Caroline (b abt 1827) in Stoke Lane, Shepton Mallet and he's an 18 year old quarryman. He's given as born in Coarston, Somerset. Now comes the fun bit. I couldn't find Thomas in 1881 but I did find Caroline who's married but with no husband present. She has her son, Oliver, 18, stone quarryman, with her together with her 8 year old grandson, Thomas HALFWAY, and granddau, Clara R HALFWAY. It does look like HALFWAY in the image but I can't find a PADFIELD/ HALFWAY marriage and I can't find any HALFWAY births, marriages or deaths on FreeBMD between 1840 and 1880 either. So was Thomas Albert/Alfred a HALFWAY or a PADFIELD or is HALFWAY a red herring? If HALFWAY is wrong, what should it be? -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Greinton and Clutton, SOM Asst OPC for Ashcott and Shapwick, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk
