    3. Charani When you have time investigation of following would be helpful. Rather a lot so please ration if appropriate. 1. My maternal TARR line goes back reliably to George TARR bap 1711 Exford - he married Elizabeth HUXTABLE in 1729 in Exford. Any TARRS in Exford or surrounding parishes in the mid 1600 listings you have ? 2. I have COLES ancestry and line has been traced back fairly reliably to Jonas COLES bap 1641 in Cannington ( m Joane DAY in 1669 in Cannington) and less reliably to Jonas' father Edward COLES ( m Margarett Tillerie 1640 Cannington) and Edward's father Jonas COLES (m Jone MEMBREY 1602 Cannington). I would be very interested in any COLES included in your lists in Cannington or nearby parishes. 3. My POOLE line has been traced back reliably to Clement POOLE bap approx 1740 ( m Elizabeth/Betty JAMES 1765 Lilstock). I am trying to find possible links to another well researched POOLE tree which goes back to William POOLE who married Margaret WHITE in 1582 in Overstowey. Their descendents lived in Stogursey, Crowcombe, Nether Stowey, Woolavington and nearby parishes. I would ber interested in any POOLEs listed for these areas - ie mainly the Cannington hundred but also North Petherton, Williton & Freemanors, Huntspill & Puriton. Regards and thanks from all for your offer to share this data. Ian L

    3. Hi Charani It sounds as though you've got your hands full with your family at the moment. Ouch, sorry to hear your daughter walked into a lamp post...was it dark:-) My de STRODEs should be on your CDs. I have them back to 1150...no, not to Adam and Eve but I have got so much info on them. How about the BROWN(E)s of Bowlish or Shepton Mallet. I know they are slightly outside our area but you did mention Somerset! Of course, this lot all had homes in London and/or Bristol as well so from that point of view, I am in the area! Good luck to your daughter, a broken wrist can be very painful. My daughter broke hers when she was running backwards...there was no lamp post there! Liz www.btinternet.com/~e.newbery OPC for Street, Somerset

    3. Hi: I'm looking for a marriage between Daniel Buckle and Mary England on Oct 7, 1798. Both were from Siston parish. I'm not sure whether they would have got married in Siston parish or in Bristol. The only information that I have is a patron submission on the IGI. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 3. Whilst at the WDYTYA fair, I bought the two volumes that comprise Dwelly's National Records for Somerset. Volume one is the extant Hearth Tax records for Somerset for 1664-65 and is indexed by place and name. It makes for interesting, and slightly amusing, reading. It's not as good as a census but does give a good indication of who was where and how many hearths they had. It doesn't just name men. There are plenty of women listed too. There are a number of entries that state a resident had declared one or even two hearths less than they had and one chap declared two MORE than he had. There are also a number of entries annotated with "one hearth dug up" or "one hearth stopped up". Finding ways not to pay tax was as alive and well in the 17th century as it is today <G> Volume two contains "the names of all persons paying taxes or exempted from payment". There's a note that some hundreds are missing as well as parishes and tythings. The bulk of the volume deals with exemptions for 1670 and 1674. This volume is not indexed. 1. [B&D] WDYTYA Live
    2. Charani
    3. I made my annual trip to the WDYTYA Live fair at Olympia the other weekend and have to say I was a little disappointed this year. It seemed smaller than in previous years and there were fewer FHSs stands than before. There were also some other stands missing. There were also some complaints about people not being allowed in because "it was full", yet, looking down from the gallery, there was more carpet visible than in previous years. Perhaps there had been complaints that it had been too crowded in previous years. That said, it was still a good fair and worth visiting. I bought a number of books and CDs as well as a couple of subscriptions whilst there. It gave me something to read/peruse on the 3-hour journey back home <G> It's possible next year's WDYTYA Live fair may (and I stress this is only *may*) be the last one at Olympia. The reason being the Earls Court group, of which Olympia is a part, has been bought with a view to demolishing the venue and redeveloping it. Whether the same fate awaits Olympia itself is not clear at the moment. If the show does move, then it could well go to the NEC, Birmingham, although there is a possible alternative venue in London: the ExCel in East London. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Greinton and Clutton, SOM Asst OPC for Ashcott and Shapwick, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk
