    3. Hi Edna, Liz & Charani, That's all useful information - thank you very much. That site is very informative, Edna, thanks for that. I was aware of the building at the bottom of Park Street - I believe it was built originally for the Bristol Institution for the Advancement of Science, Literature and the Arts in about 1820 and housed their Museum & Galleries. It was sold to the Freemasons in about 1871 when the museum moved into new buildings in Queens Road - now Browns Restaurant. Only the outer walls of the Park Street building remained after the war but I didn't know whether their records had been lost. So thank you for that Liz - what a pity! But, were there were other Lodges in Bristol at the time I am interested in? As they didn't move to Park Street until 1871 where were they meet before? I will start by using the contact address given on the Province of Bristol Site http://www.provinceofbristol.org.uk/index.htm email prov.sec@provinceofbristol.org If all else fails locally then I will follow your suggestion Charani and contact London. 3. Hi Further top Marion's comments ... yes this is a very significant event for the Cemetery - its not really a 'reopening' as its always been open (thanks to the efforts of the Friends of Arnos Vale Cemetery who campaigned to save it). This is a celebration to mark the completion of the main restoration project - including the main buildings, paths, walls and a some monuments. If you haven't visited for some time you will see some dramatic changes! If you've never visited ... you must! :) Loads of entertainment type things are going on to attract interest including a small team of volunteers who will be running heritage tours all day on Saturday 1st May... note there will be a charge for tours but entry to the cemetery is of course free and you can walk around as much as you like ... or perhaps buy one of the self guided tour leaflets. No cars are allowed into the cemetery during these celebration days - one good way to get around this is to use the park and ride bus from Brislington - it will stop right outside the cemetery gates. If you don't get any joy from the link Edna gave, try contacting Grand Lodge in London. I've not contacted them myself, despite having Freemasons in my family, but I gatgher they can be very helpful. Sons often followed their fathers into a Lodge but not always. 3. Pardon me if this a slightly long winded but............. I am looking for Elizabeth EDMUNDS c 1835 apparently born Ames in Devon [see below]. I have been contacted by a gent on Devon List who says that there is an Ames near Exmouth, so this could be true. I am still a bit suspect though as to whether Elizabeth really came from Devon. This LUDLOW family are transcribed as LUDLUM on Ancestry in 1851 and Elizabeth is EDWARDS. In 1861 in the same LUDLOW Family there is a Hannah EDMONDS [also below] aged 49 born Henbury. What I would like to know is...............Is Elizabeth Hannah's daughter? Did Elizabeth marry and then did mother Hannah take over her position with the LUDLOW'S? Has anyone got Elizabeth or Hannah in their Tree so that I can eliminate this Elizabeth as having been born in Devon as the census says. >From Gordon Beavington's 1851 census CD 317 LUDLOW Arthur 40 Chergyman Unemployed Bristol St Michaels Ann 36 Ireland Ann 7 Gloucestershire Compton + Catherine 2 Clifton Thomas 10m Clifton SHEPPARD Sophia Visitor 31 Ireland THOMAS Margaret Servant 37 Pembrokeshire Amroth DAVIES Elizabeth Servant Widow/er 65 Monmouthshire Crick HALL Joseph Servant 16 Henbury CERP / CARP Mary Servant 14 Gloucestershire Compton Grenfield EDMUNDS Elizabeth Servant 16 Devon Ames ******** In 1851 4 EDMONDS Hannah 39 House Keeper to Rector Compton CORP Enino Servant 14 Compton **** 1861 Henbury John Ludlow 40 head Vicar of Compton Bristol Jane Ludlow 77 widow Ireland Mary J Ludlow 54 daughter (presumably of Jane) Bristol Hannah Edmonds 49 servant Henbury, Glos Harriet Corp 16 servant Henbury, Glos Regards Bev Edmonds Australia
