Hi Chirani, It just so happens that at the time when we had free access to the Gale newspaper archives I had discovered one of my ancestors on the Formidable ship and was able to find information about life on board etc. If you are interested I will find it and send on to you off list. 3. One of my HASEs was also on the Training Ship Formidable which was at Portishead. There are some records in Bristol Record Office - too late for mine who was sentenced to 5 years there in 1870, but you might find something about why your Charles was there - it would probably have been as a result of a Magistrates' Order. 3. I'm still having fun (I think) with my YORKS :)) In the 1881 census Charles YORK, age 13, has as his address The Industrial School Ship Formidable. Could someone tell me where I might find some more information about this industrial school and why Charles might be there? In 1891 he was a boot finisher. In 1901 he was a shoe maker. In 1911 he was a cask washer in a vinegar bewery. 3. That's a National Library of Australia website. There also have a thing called Trove, which includes the newspapers, plus photos, magazines and lots more. You can register and bookmark items. Your best bet is a local paper which could well have more information than the actual inquest. Coroner's reports are his property to destroy after 15 years unless the case is of particular note in which event it's closed for 75 years. However, it's still worth checking with the Bristol Record Office to see what, if anything, they have in the way of inquest reports as they tended to be deposited in the local record office/archives from the 1920s onwards. BRO have an online catalogue you can check but, IIRC, their research service has been temporarily suspended. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Greinton and Clutton, SOM Asst OPC for Ashcott and Shapwick, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk
