    2. Charani
    3. Many of us have children who suddenly disappear, sometimes they are orphans, sometimes they only have one parent surviving. I've recently come across a new list that might help locate some of these children. http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/UK/CHILD-MIGRANTS-UK.html This is for ALL child migrants from the UK and Ireland who were sent to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and other countries as well as the Home Children sent to Canada. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Greinton and Clutton, SOM Asst OPC for Ashcott and Shapwick, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk http://www.savethegurkhas.co.uk/

    3. Hi Nancy, Thanks for the information about the Pharos online course. I had already found their website through Google, and am considering enrolling. So it was very helpful to receive such positive feedback. Living where I do (in Israel), there are no (non-Jewish) family history centres here, so I'm very much isolated and dependent on Internet for my FH research; so I imagine that an online course such as Pharos would be a great support. My time zone here is GMT+2, so it might mean an occasional late night for me... but I can always lie in late in the morning! Margaret Hayon -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Nancy Frey Sent: Friday, October 08, 2010 12:14 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [B&D] Webinars Hi Charani, Legacy not only produces The Master Genealogist program, but along with their Webinars hold an annual Genealogy Cruise, with lectures and seminars, plus some one-on-one with well-known genealogists from all over the world. There is another American firm called WhollyGenes that also does the same thing. I've always wanted to go on one of their Cruises. Last week I finished a Pharos Tutors [http://www.pharostutors.com/index.php] online course on how to become a professional genealogist. It was great. Today I signed up for another one about researching in Devon. The Pharos courses last abour four weeks each and consist of a Lesson send to you, Exercises for you to do and post your results to the private forum for your class, and once a week, there is a chat session which is like sitting around in the livingroom discussing the results so far. It was not only information, but a lot of fun and I met some great people from all over the world. They cost c. £37.00 per Course, but I got a discount on the Devon one as I am a member of the Devon Family History Society. Yes, the time zones couls create a problem, but the only one that you had to be 'on time' for is the chat. They held it at 9:00 pm London England time, which was 4:00 pm in the afternoon for me, so not a problem. I believe in Australia it was 9:00 am. While I don't use The Master Genealogist or the Legacy genealogy programs, I try to participate in their FREE courses, but have only paid for the Pharos one. Online learning is very popular these days, and works very well. Regards, Nancy Frey Newcastle, Ontario, CANADA OPC for Ansford & Castle Cary, Somerset Moderator of Yahoo! 3. Hello I have recently joined the list and in need of some advice ... until now, no known relatives in this part of England! I am looking into a marriage that occured between George CHAPMAN and Elizabeth BENDALL on 22 April 1816 at St Augustine The Less, Bristol, Gloucester. This marriage seems to be a possible fit with information that I already have ... Does anyone have this couple on their tree? In my tree, I have a widow, Elizabeth CHAPMAN who remarries in Middlesex in 1824. Her eldest daughter's name was Sarah Chapman HIBBLE and from census records it would appear that she (the daughter) was born in Bath. I have found baptismal records in Middlesex for all children that Elizabeth and her second husband had, but not for Sarah. Sarah's death certificate confirms her birth place as Bath, England and notes that Elizabeth BENDALL was her mother's name, and her father as Charles HIBBLE. I am now thinking that Sarah was actually the daughter of the first husband (whose first name I haven't been able to confirm), as it seems unlikely that Elizabeth's second husband would want his first born child's second/middle name to be that of his wife's deceased first husband ... if that makes sense!!!!!!!!! I would think it more likely that Sarah CHAPMAN later took the surname of her mother's second husband. Any further information on either the marriage or where to look for Sarah or Elizabeth's baptismal records in Bath would be appreciated - have checked the IGI for the baptismal record - no success for Sarah and a few too many Elizabeth BENDALLs to narrow down.
