    3. Hi everyone, I am researching the family of Joanna BELLEW who m. Reuben Hatton September 20, 1782. History of Boone County Missouri 1882 p. 1031-1032 "He[ Reuben Hatton] was born and raised to the age of nineteen years in Amelia county, Virginia, receiving an excellent common schooled education. At the breaking out of the revolutionary war, he entered the American Army, being at the time of age. He was at the battles of Guilford Court House and Eutaw Springs, also in the disastrous engagement with Lord Rawden. The close of the war found him in South Carolina. Being charmed with the country and climate, he resolved to remain in the south. Having learned the hatter's trade with his father before the war, he applied for a station, and was employed by a Frenchman named BELEAU, a descendant of a Hugenot family, of South Carolina, whose wife was the fame faith and nativity. This proved an important epoch in the life of Reuben Hatton. He made love to his employer's daughter and was accepted. In the course of time they were married, and the well-matched couple lived happily together as man and wife for over half a century..." Reuben and Joanna moved to Foxtown, Madison, Kentucky in the late 1700's. After 1812 they moved to Boone County Missouri. According to Revolutionary War, Application for Pension papers (S17466) for Reuben Hatton there is this information on his wife. "The soldier married September 20, 1782, Joanna, her maiden name not stated. I have very little on Joanna BELEAU. Her name is sometimes spelled BELLEW. Any information on the BELLEW family of South Carolina would be appreciated.
