    1. YAB (Yet Another Brisbin)
    2. George H. Brisbin Jr.
    3. Hello, I am new to the list so I thought I would say HI! I am George Herbert Brisbin Jr and son of (You guessed it ) GHB (SR). My Father is the son of Charles Herbert Brisbin of the Jerry City (Woods County?) area of Ohio. Charles' mother and father divorced when he was 10 or 12 and he was taken to the Kansas area where his father resettled. At the age of 13 Charles ran away from his father and returned home to his mother. She remarried and was known as Mrs. Rebecca Gingery Wood. She did not claim the name Brisbin after the divorce even though my grand father, Charles, kept the name. Rebecca lived to see the turn of the century but passed away before 1920. My problem is rather simple :-). Who was my great grand father? Grandpa would talk of people in the family before him such as his grandfather and tell of how they served in the civil war ( apparently one of about seven brothers and sisters) but would mention few names. He would mention the town in central Penn. that bears the family name and apparently ties in to a George Mittinger Brisbin who married a daughter of a Dr. Houts(z) which is the name of the town just over the hill. But how this ties together I don't know. If this sets off any buzzers or bells I would like to hear about it. Thank you very much. George Brisbin

    2. Hi Jackie - re: attorney in fact: BLACK'S LAW DICTIONARY, 1983, states "A private attorney authorized by another to act in his place and stead, either for some particular purpose, as to do a particular act, or for the transaction of business in general, not of a legal character. This authority is conferred by an instrument in writing, called a "letter of attorney," or more commonly a "power of attorney." Hope this helps. Incidentally, we're still diligently researching James Sanks Brisbin. We did 5,000 miles r/t seeking information. Unfortunately, unearthed virtually nothing of a personal nature. He was a prolific writer and can find lots of things he wrote, but he chose to not tell anything about his wife and family. Will keep trying. Lyn Dunham ==== BRISBIN Mailing List ==== List problems? 1. William BRISBIN, Green Co., IL
    2. Jacqueline Marshall
    3. Hi everyone, Since I'm thinking about BRISBINs this morning I wanted to throw out a question about this William BRISBIN. Several years ago Muriel Brisbin Morrison hired an Illinois professional researcher and she turned up the following, these are my notes: 1830: Deed Book D 74, Mary Brisbin Nov. 17, 1830 to William Gordon. She signs as being of full age. The researcher typed over the name of the county where the land is located and I cannot read it. She says that this was recorded in Morgan Co. as Scott was not yet cut off from Morgan. 8-T14-R11W nr Li... The photocopy cuts off this word. 1830: The land patent in Green County, IL is located below Carrollton on Link Branch in Woodville/Kane area. Residence 11 Dec. 1830, Adams Co, IL W1/2NW section 12 to 1-12 80 acres. ~In the "History of Morgan Co. Illinois' at Seattle Public Library I found this on page 432; "LYNNVILLE - Before the erection of the school building William Brisbine had taught at his own home in this neighborhood." The school house was built in 1830. Muriel's researcher felt that this would mean that he was married at this time. 1833: G 45 Deed #2969. $50.00, Oct 2, 1833, William Brisbin and his wife, Mary Brisbin of Green Co., IL., sell 22-13-11 land "his Edwardsville purchase to James Wilson of Morgan County, IL in the presence of Justice of Peace and Jesse V. Mounts." 1834: There is another deed in Deed Book G8, deed dated Jan. 30, 1834, residents of Green County, IL; William and Mary Brisbin sell Section 22, T13-11 land, by his attorney-in-fact, Absalom Clark. The researcher noted that 'attorney-in-fact' is usually a family member. Does anyone know exactly what "attorney-in-fact" means? We found that after James D. Savage died in California his brother Morgan R. Savage from Oregon represented their father, Peter S. Savage of Illinois, as his 'attorney-in-fact'. So perhaps Absalom CLARK is a family member working with the estate of that William BRISBIN? We think that William BRISBIN is the brother of John BRISBIN, father Frances Ann Brsibin SAVAGE. Any ideas? Thank you. Jackie Savage Marshall ==== BRISBIN Mailing List ==== Visit the Brisbin Family List Home Page! http://www.rootsweb.com/~daisy/brisbin.htm

    1. John BRISBIN
    2. Jacqueline Marshall
    3. Hi BRISBIN fans! Does that name look familiar or what? This week Anne Trussell uncovered the Probate Estate Papers of Charles Wesley BRISBIN, 1857, Benton County, Oregon. Heirs listed were: Listed 6 Oct 1857 William BRISBIN, Umpqua County, Oregon Territory John BRISBIN, ___, Illinois ____ BRISBIN, Texas HIBBARD'S wife R. DUNBAR'S wife M. SAVAGE'S wife, the women all in Oregon Territory Listed 3 Nov 1857 William BRISBIN of Oregon Territory John BRSIBIN of Tazwell Co., Illinois Frances SAVAGE of Benton Co., Oregon Territory Nancy HIBERD [HIBBARD] of Marion Co., Oregon Territory Jane DUNBAR of Marion Co., Oregon Territory brother in Texas [Alexander BRISBIN] There are two things worring me about this list 1) Two sisters have been left off; Elizabeth BRISBIN MORGAN m to Charles F. MORGAN 1829 in Morgan Co., IL and Sarah Moore BRISBIN DURANT m to Edward DURANT 1829 in Morgan Co., IL. I have Sarah's death date as 24 Mar 1859 in Union Co., IL. 2) We had never seen the brother, John BRISBIN, before. I shouldn't be surprised though, every BRISBIN family has a John BRISBIN!! Yesterday I wrote to the GenWeb Look-Up person for Tazwell County, IL and here is what she sent me. It raises even more questions. Perhaps the census is simply wrong with that birthplace? He should have been born in Morgan County if he is the son of our John & Mary Miller Brisbin. This would make him a YOUNGER brother of our Frances Ann Brisbin SAVAGE. What a surprise! 1860 Tazewell County census, p. 294: John Brisban 31M Farmer OH Harriet Brisban 16F IN living with: John J. Algea 40M Farmer r p OH Mary J. 3. Hi Ryan, Welcome back to the list! Congrats on the new position! Best man for the job, I am sure. Now, to order Archived Brisbin Lists...this *sounds* more complicated then it is! Write to BRISBIN-D-REQUEST@rootsweb.com Put archive in the subject Put maxfiles 63 send volume97/? volume97/[1-5]? volume97/6[0123] in the body Also, there is a possibility that your ISP will not allow you to receive that many messsages. If so, you can send in your request for batches of ten at a time: In your first request, write send volume97/? Smartlist will send all the files whose names are a single character (1, 2, 3, ..., 9) In the second request, write send volume97/1? which will result in your receiving files 10 through 19 and so on. In the last message, write send volume97/6[0123] You don't need to include the "maxfiles" commands in these requests because you are asking for less than 16 files. 3. Yvonne... Greeting from Kansas! I was on the list earlier at a different address (ryanb@centralcollege.edu or ryanb@cclib2.ccmcp.edu). Well I've been hired as the new Head baseball coach/Admissions Rep. at Tabor College (Hillsboro, KS). So, I'd like to return to the list. Also... I lost several vital Brisbin geneology emails when I made the move. Any idea if I can get any and all info out there? Thank you for your time. Sincerely... Ryan S. Brisbin

    3. Siggy, A VIP Froggy Written by: JRose10700@aol.com OK, so what does a frog have to do with genealogy searches? If he is named Siggy, quite a bit. Remember the frog that went a-wooing in the old folksong? Well, Siggy is a frog that goes a-rooting for sites that will help family tree climbers in their never-ending search for their ancestors. And you might say that Siggy goes a -wooing too, to help you find those sites. Siggy is the happy little critter adopted as a mascot by the United States Internet Genealogical Society (USIGS). For August, Siggy is beaming happily from the 1895 Atlas Project pages created by Pam Rietsch at http://www.ismi.net/lcmigw/1895.htm The Siggy committee chose her for its second award. For her "project is a labor of love" as she strives to put the entire 1895 Atlas on line. Rooters who go there will be able to find any town or community that existed in 1895. And not just if it existed, but a map of the site! The Atlas Project fulfilled all the requirements for the Siggy award, according to John Quigley, chairman of he Siggy committee. "It s free, it is online and it is for the benefit of the genealogical community as a whole." Thus the site well exemplifies the stated purpose of USIGS, for which it was organized in early summer. "A wonderful work," Quigley said. The Siggy logo will be displayed on Pam’s page and on that of the USGenWeb project which had the honor of winning the very first Siggy away in July. Siggy in all his glory will be found on the US Gen welcome page, at http://www.usgenweb.com/welcome/welcome/html. Several other sites have been named as Honorable Mention. These include the HendersonCounty,Ky, KyGenWeb page which has the 1850, 1860, 1880 and 1920 census records as well as death records form 1912-1922 on line; the Trigg County Kentucky KyGenWeb page which as the 1800, 1850 and 1920 census records, al cemetery records and other information; the Indiana InGenWeb page which has links to state-wide queries, bible records, surnames, biographies, obituaries and Civil War Project; the Original Muscatine County, Iowa, Genealogy home page and the Decatur County, Iowa, Genealogy home page. These sites may be accessed from the USIGS home page, http://www.usigs/org with links to Siggy Award. While there, incidentally, sign up for a look at The Signal, first newsletter of the organization, edited by DearMyrtle, AOL’s resident genealogist. All these projects qualify by virtue of making available original data for research. Several sites looked at were excellent, according to the selections committee, but did not cite sufficient sources where facts could be verified. Many others are in process of creation and may be found in the projhects registry page. Siggy is a snooty little critter, in that only those projects which have been judged worthy for the monthly award may sport his logo. All USIGS members, however, may use the official red white and blue ellipse on their home pages. Membership, incidentally, is free, and signups may be done at the home page. The committee is always searching the web looking for good Siggy sites, Quigley stressed. Anyone with ongoing projects is encouraged to encouraged with USIGS which will spread the word to searchers. Siggy was born from his acronym, "Accessing Free Records Online for Genealogy" Good luck in your quest, Yvonne USIGS Publicity Committee ****** Yvonne James-Henderson, Burke, VA My Home page: Daisy's Roots: http://www.rootsweb.com/~daisy/1daisy.htm alternate addresses: daisy@usroots.com or hen1@idt.net Listowner for these Family Discussion Lists: BALLEAU BRISBIN COOKSEY HITT HORN KENTON LAWSON LUCKY MORROW SWEET ZIMMERMAN Listowner for: The PRINCE WILLIAM, OLD FREDERICK, ROCKBRIDGE CO., VA and MASON CO., KY Discussion Lists
