Hi Linda, I think I have something for you!!!! The connection with Samuel R. Brisbin came from Linda Bell Brisbane of Churchville, PA. I have to go look for her address, don't think she is on e-mail. So, what do you think of this? It isn't even my line, but I worked on it when I was trying to figure out where my John Brisbin came from. It is all pretty sketchy, but sure gives you something to start with. You'll have your work cut out for you too!!!!! I also have notes on Capt. William & on his son John. If you'd like I can make up a report that includes the notes, sources, everything and send it as an attatchment. Dear Jackie, How many times have you been called an angel! This line of Linda Bell Brisbane's is too close to not have a connection....I am in shock! I was sure that my family was not from PA and always ignored queries and info with PA in it. What is sort of funny is the Grover marriage....my great aunt Edith was a Grover.....I will have to see if she was related even before marriage to George Brisbane. When Nancy wrote saying she was sending my letter to you....the name sounded like one I had seen. So last night I looked in the archives, and you have so much research! I can't remember which letter it was...a will I think, you mention Briston as a spelling. I can't get over how much this name changes back and forth. Briston was the spelling in James P. Brisben's marriage records to Rose Walner. This new info is great...but...of course it just leads to more questions. I have a note I hung onto about marriages in Jefferson Co., IN, and it may clear up the ???? you have in the list below for the child of John Brisbin and Mary Clark Young.......Elizabeth W. Brisben, m. Nicholas D. Grover, Jefferson Co., IN, 20 June 1821. Have no proof, but it seems to work time wise. 2 John Brisbin b: 1766 Lancaster Co., PA d: Jul 1837 Madison, Jefferson, IN .... +Mary (Clark) Young b: 11 Jul 1776 m: 05 Jul 1796 prob. I am researching BRISBANE (that's the way they spell it now) But.....when I went through records in Bedford, Lawrence Co., IN, I found the following for my Great grandfather and great grandmother: MARRIAGE APPLICATION - Jan 14, 1903, Lawrence Co., IN. (Bedford) James P. BRISTON and Rose B.WALNER. GROOM: James P. BRISTON, Resident of Bloomington, IN (Monroe Co.) age 30 (ca 1873), Occupation, Stone Cutter, Place of birth, Covington, KY, Father's Name, Samuel R. BRISTON, Mother's maiden name, Mary E. Her name was spelled BRISBEN. 1900 Census for Galesburg, Knox Co., IL - there are no Brisbane's listed. After finding the above spelling on the marriage license, of BRISTON, I checked further back in the Kentucky Gazette, 1803, and found there was a James BRISTON of Clark County. His name was posted by Edmund Calloway as part of a list of letters at the post office in Winchester. Then I looked in the 1818 issue of the Kentucky Gazette, and it states, "Notes about steamboats at Louisville mention, J. Pryor and Co., Capt. B. Jenkins, Capt. Hopkins.....and James BRISBANE. Hi Win, Carlene Cohn found a document on microfilm in Lancaster County, PA. This is briefly what she told me about that document. Jackie 1772 Jul 15: John Brisbin was named guardian over three children of John McNabb; Ann McNabb had another guardian, Wm. Hamilton. On this date he signed a document as a surviving mortgagee acknowledging satisfaction as guardian of Ann McNabb, daughter of John McNabb, decd. He received from John Brisbin, share of Ann. (CGC, Lancaster County) Apparently Ann reached her majority and received her share of her father's estate.

I do not have a marriage for Margaret McNabb 1758-1760: Capt. John Brisbin married Isabella Simmons (widow McNabb). Anne Futch found that she was the daughter of Samuel Simmons & Jane Stockton of Lancaster, PA. 1773 Apr 20: An indenture between John Brisbin of Lampiter, Lancaster, PA with Isabella his wife and George Graff. One of the witnesses was Jane McNabb. 1786 Aug 7: An indenture between John Brisbin & his wife Mary, and George Bressler. It appears that John & Mary are selling land inherited by his previous wife, Isabella, from her first husband, John McNabb. John McNabb's father, William, had willed it to him. (AF, incomplete copy) The land is located in Lampeter on the Great Road between Lancaster and Philadelphia. 1789 Sep 18: "Yeoman John Brisban and his wife Elizabeth of Point Township, County of Northumberland" sold property acquired in 1786 in Mahoning Twp. to Thomas Wright of Plumstead twp in Bucks Co.. The property was granted to John Brisban by "patent bearing date of the 8th of April 1786". The transfer was made the 18 Sept 1789 and recorded 10 March 1790." We obviously still have stability problems on the old Web server. I'm in the process of replacing all the adapter boards, with especial prejudice concerning the SCSI disk controller. Regardless of whether I can get the old server to stay up, we'll have the new server online within the next couple of days.
