I know that we probably all have different software and some of it ranks just a smidgen above Edline. However, I don't know of a single e-mail editor program that doesn't have a feature to delete unwanted information when one replies to a message rather than typing in a new address. It is usually simply a matter of marking a block of text and hitting the delete key. It is also possible to change the subject line to something that is more appropriate for the new message. Right now, I have about 50 messages with IGI in the subject line and some these are merely reprints of the original IGI message with a few lines of new message attached. When I am in a hurry, I usually trash any message that appears to be a duplicate of something I have recently read. I'm sure I have trashed some useful information simply because it was tacked onto the bottom of an old message. Putting a new message at the top of an old one helps reduce that problem, but it does nothing to reduce the disk space consumed by the redundant message. In most cases a reply to a message consists of responding to only a few lines or maybe a paragraph or two of the original message. The rest can be deleted without affecting the quality of the reply. If each of us will take a few moments to delete the unneeded text when we respond and/or send new messages we can each save hundreds of hours in the next year because we won't have to read and compare so many messages to ensure that we aren't throwing the baby out with the bath water. Most of the information in any list group isn't going to be of immediate direct interest to any one subscriber. However, one never knows when some new information is going to be discovered that will connect several pieces into a family line. Thanks for your help.
