    1. Hello to the Brinson List
    2. Hello to all of you on the Brinson list-- I am a newcomer and thought that I would introduce myself to you. My name is Joe (Brinson, of course). I live outside of Charleston, SC in Ridgeville, SC. I was born in Jacksonville, Fl. and grew up in Waycross, Ga. My grandparents moved to Jacksonville from Millen, Ga. during the depression--seeking work. 1. Thomas Brinson - Joyce 2. John Brinson -Elizabeth Capps 3. Adam Brinson - Sarah Sterling 4. John Brinson - Susannah Slade 5. Daniel Brinson - Elizabeth Brinson 6. Adam Mills Brinson - Rosa Virginnia Willis 7. Daniel Capers Brinson - Cynthia Ester Edenfield (Millen, GA) 8. Arthur Leroy Brinson - Eunice Erma Lee (Jacksonville, Fl) 9. Arthur Earl Brinson - Ovedia Celene Dukes 10. Joe Ellis Brinson (that's me) I would be interested in learning if the information that I have is correct. And in fleshing out some of my ancestors-- that is, learning more about them and their daily lives. I also know that Adam Mills Brinson served in the 22nd Ga. Infantry during the War Between the States and surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse in 1865. So friends, I will sit back and listen for a while, and when I have something to add I will jump right in there. Have a great day. Joe

My family originates on the coast of North Carolina in Craven County, around the New Bern area. I have never known to much about the Brinson side of my family, except that my father is Robert Primrose Brinson, Jr. and my grandfather is Robert Primrose Brinson, Sr. My grandfather married Lila, but I don't even know her maiden name (I suppose I could ask her!). My grandfather has died, and I'm not sure how much family history my dad knows. I'm more knowledgeable in the family history of my mother's side (Bedsworth). However, if anyone knows something of the family history of this NC line of Brinsons, I would like to hear it. I'm a college student, and my studies do not allow me to do much study into family history. Plus, I'm in Arkansas for school, and I don't know of a single Brinson in Arkansas. Thanks for your help! Sincerely, Robert C. Brinson BRINSONR@ACC.JBU.EDU Hello Robert - Yes, I have some extensive info on the NC and GA Brinsons. Our Great Uncle Chauncey "Chan" Brinson did a lot of work with Miss Louisa Wright of Jefferson Co, GA, long ago. He shared what he had with the late Mr C D Hollingsworth of Sylvania GA and he published a paperback Brinson genealogy. I have most of that info, and have been in touch with Mr CD's daughter in law, who promises to copy the original and send. Our Brinsons came from Jefferson Co, GA to Wrightsville, GA. I have the family history back to the first Robert. I can't connect you to what I have without more info. PLEASE go talk to your grandmother or call her. The older folk remember a lot about family, usually, and time is a'wastin', so "git!", as granny used to say. Don't pass up this chance to gather info on your Brinsons. If you can find more (like your grandfather's father and mother's names (Grandmother should know that), write me again. Typical questions: Do you remember the names of Grandaddy's parents? Do you remember who their parents were? And do you remember where they were from? Do you remember the birthday? etc. Best wishes - Judy Canant, Lakeland, FL

    3. Karen Isaacson started this list a few days ago and I've agreed to promote and coordinate it until we gain about 100 subscribers. Although you don't know it, one of you will "volunteer" to take over the list when we hit the 100 mark. (I'm doing this because, like you and thousands of others, I owe Karen more than I can repay for her making RootsWeb available for our use.) To help me quickly reach my goal of 100 BRINSON subscribers, I need your help. I need E-mail addresses of people you've exchanged BRINSON information with on the Internet. I'll mail them an invitation to join us, like the one I sent to you. Here's the list of subscribers, as of Sunday morning. (Today.) If your BRINSON cousin-contact isn't listed, send me their E-mail address. 1. The early family
    2. Hi all, This maybe of general interest on the Brinson's. The family are as you will read are of noble origin being descended from one of the largest landholders in the Doomesday Book Robert de Eu who was Count of Eu.Robert was a cousin of William the Conqueror. Most of his land's were in the south of England the largest in Sussex. The family didn't come from Briencun (Brienson) but owned the land there or I should say the count of Eu owned it. Eu is on the northern French coast & pronounced Ugh, I think. A Dictionary of British Surnames; Dr P.H. Reaney. Brimson, Brinson, Brenston: John de Brinzun 1240 FFEss; Joan de Bryaunesoun, Bartholomew Brinsun 1274 RH (Ess) This family came from Briencun (Normandy) and left it's name in Brimstone Hill in Little Wakering, (Essex) Breaunsons 1419, Brernsons, Bramsons 1553. New Hall in Purleigh was formerly called from them ; Brymshams 1527, Bremstones 1537, Brempsons 1554 (PN Ess 204, 233). The surname may have also have contributed to Bramson, Branson, Branston. The Place Names of Essex. Rochford Hundred. Little Wakering BRIMSTONE HILL (6 ) is Breatmsons 1419 MinAcct, Bremsons, Bramsons 1549, Brendston Fee I553 Pat. A manorial name deriving from the family of John de Brinzun (I240 FF) Joan de Bryaunesoun (I297 FF), which came originally from Briencun Normandy). Cf. New Hall tnfra 223. Place Names of Essex. NEW HALL is Brymshams alias Newhall I527 EAS vii, Newhall alias Brempstones I537 FF, (otherwyse Bremsons) 1547 HarlR, (modo voc Brempsons) 1554 Ct, and formerly belonged to Giles de Bryaunzoun (1317 FF). Cf. Brimstone Hill supra 204. The Victoria History Of the County Of Essex: vol. VIII, page 59, West Thurrock. MANORS. Domesday Book lists 7 separate estates in Thurrock. One held by the bishop of London, was in Little Thurrock. Another held by William Peverel, was in Grays Thurrock. The largest, held by the count of Eu, became the manor of West Thurrock. Three estates held by Odo, bishop of Bayeux, & one held by Terry Pointell, cannot be certainly identified. They were probably not in West Thurrock, unless one of them can be identified with the latter tenement of Mitchell’s. The manor of West Thurrock or West Hall seems to originally to have comprised most of the parish, but was gradually reduced in size by the formation of later manors. It was held in 1066 by Earl, later King Harold as 13 hides & in 1086 by Robert, count of Eu, in demesne. The tenancy in chief descended with the honour of Hastings. The demesne tenancy was held from the 12th to 14th century by the family of Brinson (de Breaunzon, Brianzun), who were descended from the count’s of EU. In 1198 the manor was granted to Bartholomew Brinson as part of a family settlement in which Walter de Cambrun & his wife received lands in France formerly held by Thomas Brinson, son of Robert of Eu. Robert was the brother of Henry of Eu (d 1140), count of Eu. About 1210 Bartholomew Brinson was holding a knight’s fee in West Thurrock. He had died by 1212, leaving an heir under age. A later Bartholomew Brinson was holding the manor in 1262 & 1268. He or a namesake, died in 1286, leaving William Brinson, his infant son & heir. The wardship of William, after passing through several hands, was acquired in 1291 by Walter Langton, rector of West Thurrock, later treasurer of England & bishop of Litchfield. In the following years Langton was closely associated with the Brinson’s in both West Thurrock & Aveley. William Brinson came of age c 1305, & died holding the two manors in 1310. West Thurrock descended with Aveley until the death of Joan Brinson in 1339. It then passed separately, by a settlement of 1314, to Sir William Walton (Wauton). The Victoria History Of The County of Essex . vol 8. (various) A weekly market was granted in 1207 to John de Bassingbourne as guardian of the lord of the manor BARTHOLOMEW de BRINZUN. An annual fair , for 3 days at Michaelmas was granted to BARTHOLOMEW de BRINZUN lord of Avely manor in 1286. Avely church dates back from the 12 century. The advowson was held by the lords of Avely manor until 1314 , when JOHN de BRIANSOUN granted it to Lesnes Abbey (Kent) Victoria History of the County of Essex: vol. VIII, page 5, Aveley. The manor of Aveley comprised most of the Southern half of the parish. It was held in 1066 by Sweyn, as 3 & a half hides. Another half hide, held by Ulsi, a free man, was later added by Waleran son of Ranulf, whose son John was holding the manor in demesne in 1086.The manor appears to have descended like that of Fyfield until the death of Stephen de Langton, which occurred in 1261. Stephen’s heir at Aveley was his kinsman William de Staundon, who was then under age & had died by 1272. In 1286 Bartholomew Brinson (de Breaunzon, Brianzun) died holding the manor in right of his wife Joan. Joan later married Sir John de Lovetot. She & Lovetot became closely associated with Walter Langton, treasurer of England & bishop of Litchfield, who was also rector of West Thurrock, & had custody of Joan’s infant son William Brinson. In 1303 Langton was acquitted of adultery with Joan, & of joining with her to murder Lovetot. In 1305, after her death, William Brinson granted Langton a two year lease of the manor of Aveley, rent free, to pay off a loan made long before by Langton to Lovetot. Brinson, who came of age c. 1305, died holding Aveley in 1310. He was succeeded by his brother John (d.1316) who left a son & heir (Sir) John Brinson (d.1338). Sir John Brinson’s posthumous daughter & heir Joan died in 1339. She was succeeded by a kinsman, William, son of Sweetman of Aveley who in the same year sold the manor to Sir Thomas de Bradeston. 1. The Brinson's/ Brimson's in English History
    2. Hi all, Some email's have been kindly sent on to me, so in answer to some. My name is David Brimson I am 36 & have been researching the Brimson/ Brinson surname for 10 years in England & Wales. In the last few years I have also started Brenson. These surnames In England & Wales are very rare & if I hadn't started doing a "One Name Study" I would have never have met anyone with these surnames. http://www.leicester.co.uk/guild/ I am also a member of the Somerset & Dorset Family History Sociey, Devon FHS & Oxfordshire FHS. These all have web pages. There are about 60 Brinson entries in Britain on the Phone but in the USA there are thousands. On the other hand there are hardly any Brimson's in the USA. I am trying to get a web page on the internet at the moment. It won't give vast amount's of information just an outline on what I am doing. The book by Robert W Brinson, Here There & Yonder is quite informative on the Brinson's in the USA. However the details on the early family in Essex is misleading. He say's for instance there were 10 Brinson families in Essex between 1790 ?- about 1890 or so. In fact there were none & ten Brinson families would be nearly all the Brinson's here in total !. The Brinson's for the past 3 or 4 hundred years have lived in the county of Dorset & Hampshire & on looking through the IGI you will find this. They have been farmers, net braider's, stone mason's & agricultural labourers. I have made no direct connection with any Brinson/Brimson family history & the Essex origin's yet, only by name origin, Brinson, Breanson, de Brianzon, de Brinzon, de Brianzoun, Brenson. Brunson maybe a variation as the Norman name was so hard to spell it became anglicized to just about any variation above. Most of the Brimson's lived in the counties of Wiltshire & Somerset in the last few hundred years, which border Dorset. My own branch of the Brimson's came from Tiverton in Devon which also borders Dorset & Somerset so we are a West Country lot. There are 2 town's in the USA called Brimson & a Brinson town. The Brimson town's are in MO & MI & were named after 2 railroad vice president's, William George Brimson & Walter Henry Brimson. They were brothers & had emigrated to the USA in the 1860's with their parent's & other brother & sister's. They all came from Tiverton & most of this family are buried in Chicago. The town of Brinson was as I have read established by a Simon Brinson (Georgia). I read this from a Chris Brinson of Baytown Texas. He has taken some pictures of the town, though I haven't looked yet :-0 Most of the info I have is of England though I do have a small tree of some Brinson's in the USA. I researched this whilst attending Kathy Brinson (now Musgrage, hi Kathy :-) wedding in New Bern, NC in June. We met on the internet through email & she was a good looking Brinson too ;-) I have all the Brinson's birth's, deaths & marriages from St Catherines House (now moved) in London. This is the principal repository for all these records in England & Wales from 1837 to date. I also have will's on every Brinson from 1866 to date (I know the rich one's :-) I also collect just about anything else on the name of Brinson as it's so rare here. Scandal, yes scandal I have some of that too & bancrupcies & illegitimacy :-0 .There is not much that escapes my attention ;-) I run PAF & Family Tree Maker all the latest version's. If you contact me can you please send a photo of yourself. A small one will do so I know what you all look like. I collect these to show any Brimson's/ Brinson's which is usefull I have found. If you can't not to worry. Well I will finish now. Any question's ??? Best wishes to all. 1. A document & a question

    3. This document is about someone in my lineage, William C. Brinson. It lists his parents and one grandparent. If anyone has any information that would coincide with any of this, please let me know. I keep running into deadends on this information. William C. Brinson An enterprising farmer and cotton gin proprietor - Born in Muscogee Co. Georgia, January 25, 1847. He was the fourth of eight children of Daniel and Frances (Turner) Brinson. The former a farmer of Georgia, the latter a daughter of Nelius Turner, of Virginia. W.C. Brinson - reared on a farm and worked for his father till outbreak of war. In 1863 at the age of sixteen he joined the Confederate Army - Co. C 2nd Albany, Georgia Infantry. He served most of his time on the coast in Alabama and Mississippi. He took part in several battles, he was never wounded, but was captured at Blakely. he was taken to Ship Island and held two months. From there he was taken to New Orleans; Vicksburg; then to Meridian and then released on Parole. He was in active service 18 months before he was captured. After his parole he went to Eastern Alabama where his home was at that time. He remained there until 1868 where he married Margaret Graham of North Carolina of Scotch descent. He came to Texas in 1869 and bought a farm of 350 acres on which he yet resides. 250 acres of this is in mixed crops. He also owns one of the best cotton gins in the state of Texas which he built in 1884. He has eight children - Anna L., Elizabeth P., Ora V., Willie, Leonard, Ettie, Carrie, and one that died in infancy. He is a member of the Farmer's Alliance and the Missionary Baptis Church.
