    1. SS Brinson
    2. I read, with interest, the submission by Joann (dated 10-19-97 - jbragg@daci.com). This is the first time I have ever heard of a son of Adam Brinson, RS, named Stephen. I have a couple of thoughts about Samuel. First, Mrs Louise Brinson Felton, who was the submitter to Huxford, was descended from this line, so the later generations were, no doubt, correct. Second, Stephen was born too late to be a son of Adam Brinson, RS and his wife, Sarah Sterling. Adam died in 1869 at the age of 60 years. Sarah died in 1786.. They both died before Stephen was born. I looked under Adam Brinson, Jr, and the age would not fit with his children either. I have, at present, 14 Adam Brinsons in my data base. There are also some with the initial of A which could be Adam. There is a mistake somewhere in this line, but wouldn't it be fun to solve the mystery!! I looked to see if I had a Brinson with the initial of S born about the same time as Stephen. Below is a line which has an S S Brinson born at the approximate time. I have no idea if this is Stephen, and it would be likely that he is Samuel SPARROW, since that is his mother's maiden name, but someone else might like to look and see if it is. Another thought is that Stephen was a GRANDson of Adam in one of the lines not so well recorded. I have 3 Stephen Brinsons, all born much later. Judy Canant - as usual, I invite anyone who has evidence to correct or add to this line to do so. Below this line is a Brinson line from Matthew, son of Adam Brinson, RS, which leads down to a family of Stringers, with a daughter named Nancy (the wife of Stephen Brinson was Nancy Stringer, if you will remember) This information did not include spouses of the Stringer children, but if I were a betting person, I would say that Nancy and Stephen were cousins. Now, find out where Stephen fits in all of this. Direct Descendants of Mathew Brinson 1 [1] Mathew Brinson b: 1641 in Essex, Eng d: 1703 in Norfolk? 1. Re Halbert's & Burke's Book of Brinson/Brimson's
    2. Hi all, The book is also published in England under Burke's book of Brinson's/ Brimson's. It used to be published as Halbert's though. I was sent a copy of the Brinson book a couple of years ago by a Bob Brinson of Somerset. It was his late mother's copy & said it might be interesting to me. It waffles on about general world history & migration also how to trace your family tree. Then list's info on the Brinson name which is made up & guesses. It say's Brinson is "dweller on a hill" well in my book of surnames this is Hellman or Hillman. The coat of arm's displayed is for Brin. The back part where all the Brinson's, names, address's worldwide is the most usefull part. All in all a waste of money unless you want to see all the Brinson's listed in the world & maybe contact some. Saying that I bought the book of Brinson's by Burke. All the same except more colour no arm's no surname origin but it does list all the Brimson's round the world. Some are ex-phone directory which was usefull when writing to them. Though I don't think I got many replies. I could check with British Telecom to see if a person was living at the address given. I found some name's made up & just put in by Burke's. There were 343 Brimson families listed worldwide & after England most lived in Australia 65 household's, Canada 16, USA 22. Brinson was different (households) Great Britain 85, Canada, 99, USA 3,256 [estimated pop 10,765], Australia 0, New Zealand 7,. However there are Brinson's in Australia as I have met 2, one is an actress, Katy Brinson. There was no coat of arm's or surname origin listed in the book of Brimson's. Well just thought I would add my bit as I have both book's. As you can see there are many more Brinson's in the USA than here. Cheers. 1. Donate to RootsWeb, not HALBERTs
    2. Milo Sutton
    3. =============================== From time to time, I try to warn list subscribers about Halberts and their questionable book operation. I received a mailer from them this week. Everything in it is exactly like a mailer sent to my wife and those who share her surname. They just substituted her surname with mine. I must admit, about 10 years ago I fell for their deceptive advertising. If you're going to "donate" money, send it to RootsWeb. They need it so they can keep these surname lists alive. The below message was posted on ROOTS-L. It reinforces what I've been saying.-- Milo ==============snip================

    1. IGI last part
    2. Hi to all, I am or have sent part 4 of the IGI which is called MORE. This is the last part of the IGI for North America. Sorry if I have left anyone out again. If anyone want's a part/s that I have missed please e-mail me with the part's you would like 1, 2, 3 or 4(MORE which is the last part) in a GEDCOM format. Also make the subject heading missing IGI & use your own e-mail address not the disccusion group's address. I looked through Burke's, General Armory today in the library in Oxford for a coat of arm's for Brunson, none listed though. Thankyou. 1. LET'S REDUCE DUPLICATE DATA
    2. Daniel F Brinson
    3. I know that we probably all have different software and some of it ranks just a smidgen above Edline. However, I don't know of a single e-mail editor program that doesn't have a feature to delete unwanted information when one replies to a message rather than typing in a new address. It is usually simply a matter of marking a block of text and hitting the delete key. It is also possible to change the subject line to something that is more appropriate for the new message. Right now, I have about 50 messages with IGI in the subject line and some these are merely reprints of the original IGI message with a few lines of new message attached. When I am in a hurry, I usually trash any message that appears to be a duplicate of something I have recently read. I'm sure I have trashed some useful information simply because it was tacked onto the bottom of an old message. Putting a new message at the top of an old one helps reduce that problem, but it does nothing to reduce the disk space consumed by the redundant message. In most cases a reply to a message consists of responding to only a few lines or maybe a paragraph or two of the original message. The rest can be deleted without affecting the quality of the reply. If each of us will take a few moments to delete the unneeded text when we respond and/or send new messages we can each save hundreds of hours in the next year because we won't have to read and compare so many messages to ensure that we aren't throwing the baby out with the bath water. Most of the information in any list group isn't going to be of immediate direct interest to any one subscriber. However, one never knows when some new information is going to be discovered that will connect several pieces into a family line. Thanks for your help. 3. Me again, David in Oxford, I have been working in France from Monday to Tuesday. What a rough crossing on the ferry :-( In reply to the info Dan sent. This info is also in Here There & Yonder a Brinson Genealogy by Robert W Brinson, 1982 In the Essex Pipe Rolls of 1308, Perceval de Braunesoun is shown owning a manor at the parish of Colchester. In 1410 William de Brinnsone built a wooden castle at Dunmow, Essex, later destroyed by fire. (I found nothing in the record office in Colchester Essex about him & a local historian said nobody in their right mind would build a castle made of wood, they are all stone. They are for protection from assault from invader's. The Pipe Roll's are still in Latin & to my knowlege have not been transcribed to English. They are kept in the Public Record's Office, London.) By 1500 the Brinsons owned 600 acres of land in Essex: Thomas Branson, 60 acres; Henry Brynson, 100 acres; Arthur Brinsonn, 140 acres; Sir John Brynson 220 acres; and Edward Branson, 80 acres. ( No record of a Brinson landowner in Essex exist's after 1364 & no Brinson's are listed in the Victoria History of the County of Essex, which is in 8 volumes & is located in most library's here. There is also no mention of the Brinson's as landowner's in the Rev Philip Morant's History of Essex.) The first coat of arms was granted to Philip Brinson, landowner of Audley Hall, Essex, in 1600. This is the oldest Brinson Coat of Arms and is used by modern Brinsons to establish their cultural identity and to preserve tradition. 3. Something that I have known for a while, just clicked in. My husband's family names are Bragg, Brinson, and Grimes. They were all at one time in Screven and Emanuel Co. Then, around 1880 or 1900, I lost them. Part of Screven, Burke and Emanuel, where the meet, became JENKINS County, I believe in 1900 or 1910. Soooooo! I think I may find them there. Mary, glad I found someplace else for you to go! Those that I know about usually run 3 megs or so, and unless you get a lot of mail from each list, the box should not fill up in a week. 1. BRINSON NAME ORIGIN
    2. Daniel F Brinson
    3. This name is derived from Briencun in Normandy, a province in France. Among the first by this name found in England were John de Brinzun and Joan de Bryaune-Soun, who were listed with the Feet of Fines in Essex in 1240, and Bartholomew Brinsun who was listed in the Hundred Rolls of Essex in 1274. The family has left its name in Brimston Hill in Little Wakering, Essex. This place was spelled Breaunsons in 1419, Bremsons and Bramsons in 1549 and Brendston in 1533. A place by the present name of New Hall in Purleigh Hundred, Essex, was formerly called Brymshams in 1527, and Brempsons in 1554. The name is also spelled Brineson and Brenston. No records of this name were found in either Ireland or Scotland. The above was originally published in the ATLANTA JOURNAL and CONSTITUTION [Atlanta, GA, USA], Sunday, March 15, 1970. It was quoted by Paul and Montell BRINSON TRUITT in their 1982 publication, THE BRINSON FAMILY of TREUTLEN COUNTY, GEORGIA 1610-1982. It is 155 pages, 8-1/2" x 11" soft bound, & the copy that I have does not have a copyright. The every-name index also includes place names. There is no price in my copy and I can't recall what I paid for it, but I am sure it was less than $20.00. Montell is 9th generation descendant of Thomas BRINSON of Virginia. Their address at that time was: 820 East Thirteenth Street; Stuart FL 33494 I have not communicated with them in ten years, or more, but they had a few copies left at that time. The AUTHOR'S NOTES (opening statement) contains the following items that you may find interesting: In the Essex Pipe Rolls of 1308, Perceval de Braunesoun is shown owning a manor at the parish of Colchester. In 1410 William de Brinnsone built a wooden castle at Dunmow, Essex, later destroyed by fire. By 1500 the Brinsons owned 600 acres of land in Essex: Thomas Branson, 60 acres; Henry Brynson, 100 acres; Arthur Brinsonn, 140 acres; Sir John Brynson 220 acres; and Edward Branson, 80 acres. The first coat of arms was granted to Philip Brinson, landowner of Audley Hall, Essex, in 1600. This is the oldest Brinson Coat of Arms and is used by modern Brinsons to establish their cultural identity and to preserve tradition. (There is neither a copy of the arms nor a blazon decribing it in their book!) Good Hunting!!! 3. Joann Your email to the group concerning the Huxford Library is very enlightening, thank you for sending it on. My descendant was Mathew Brinson, b.1789 Onslow Co NC and died 1861 in Shelby Co Texas. I know his ancestors and descendants, but I have never been able to find out anything about his first wife, Henrietta McLamore, who I believed he married in Georgia. He married a second time in Al(?) to Elizabeth Carrigan and had more children. Is there anything listed in the papers you have about this Brinson family? Thank you Deborah in Texas ==== BRINSON Mailing List ==== Have you considered joining the Rootsweb Genealogical Data Cooperative? http://www.rootsweb.com/ .
