    1. Jack Leroy Brinker of Grabill in Allen County Indiana killed WWII
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Brinker Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YEG.2ACIB/218 Message Board Post: Carpenter's Mate Third Class Jack Leroy Brinker; s/n 6262924, of the United States Navy Reserve and Grabill, Indiana in Allen County, was killed October 16, 1942, while serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He is missing in action or buried at sea. His name is honored on the "Tablets of the Missing" at the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. This reference was found at the Indiana State Library website but is unavailable to us since we reside in the Philippines. We would appreciate any help we could get in obtaining the information. This would undoubtedly increase oour chances of locating the family of this Indiana saerviceman so we can offer them the free photos of his grave. Please help us with this! Indianapolis Star December 13, 1942 Casualty Part 1, Page 20, Column 8 We welcome any information that would lead us to find the family of this Indiana hero. Hello, I am a retired American residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. A year ago we visited the memorial as visitors but came home with a mission in our hearts. As we gazed over the beautifully manicured acres and the 17,202 American graves, it was obvious only a few families had ever visited their graves. I stepped into the soft grass and focused my camera on one of the white crosses, a grave of an Ohio soldier. A strange calmness was in the air as I walked a few more steps and a cross of an Indiana soldier lay square in my path. The letters of the inscription on the marker was bolder than ever, here lay a soldier from my home state. At that moment a quiet brainstorm aroused my humble thoughts. I wondered if I could locate any of the families of these men. My stride became more defined and within a few moments I had located and photographed eight more graves. Since those gut-wrenching but touching moments we have energized our efforts in finding the families of these American men from Indiana. We have located well over 100 and have delivered the FREE photographs to them via email. Please visit our website and see the men we have honored and the families we have assisted in finding a more genuine closure of a horrible tragedy. http://fizkid.tripod.com/ Our success in finding the families was the result of journalists, amateur genealogists, historians, historical societies, librarians and lots of wonderful Hoosiers and those with Indiana ties across America. During our search we have also reached families from other states as well and have filled special requests for photos from the Manila American Cemetery. We presently have photographed only the graves of the Indiana soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen; however we have photographed all of the names that are engraved on the "Tablets of the Missing". We offer them free of charge to anyone who asks. We ask for your help in finding their families. We understand this is a genealogy board but we do not need immediate genealogy in that form, we need leads to find the families. Please become one of our special volunteers today and find the family of an Indiana serviceman from near your home. A list of the men from your Indiana county is available, free and all you must do is request it. Dave and Apple Dwiggins San Pablo City, Philippines

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/YEG.2ACIB/214 Message Board Post: Charles M. "Charlie" Brinker Charlie went home on May 26, 2005, after a brief illness at age 72. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Irma Brinker; and his daughter, Keely Carpenter. He was a large physical presence to all who met him, but to all who loved and knew him, he was a gentle and loving giant. He was raised in Charleston, S.C., to a very loving and adoptive family. There was always a smile on his face from the time he was born. Life was always embraced fully and a stranger he never met. Growing up, he developed a love for sports, especially football which he played on several levels. He was an avid follower of the South Carolina Gamecocks, The University of Alabama and the Atlanta Braves. A call to service came during the Korean War and he was proud to serve in the Air Force as an Airborne Radio Operator. A proud American he was to the end and remained a member of the American Legion. Charlie did many interesting things in his life, but the one his great-granddaughter was proudest of was his being one of Elvis’s first bodyguards. Since retirement, he enjoyed driving a tour bus and interacting with many who came his way. No matter what life brought his way, he always found something good in it. His love of God was evident to all who came to know him and because of this, he taught his family about life, love, laughter and generosity to all. He was a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His big smile, his laughter and his giant bear hugs will be missed by all. He was so proud of his family and they were proud to be his family or one of his many “adoptive kids.” He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Ruth Chasteen Brinker of Pelham; daughter, Jeanette (Todd) Moore of Birmingham; sons, Len (Liz) Carter of Freeport, Ill, Charles (Sandy) Brinker IV of Charleston, S.C.; grandsons, Lee Hammons, Chris Hammons, Matthew Carter, Shawn Perkins, Christopher Carpenter, Mitchell Brinker, Dylan Brinker and Hayden Brinker; granddaughters, Heather Carpenter, Debra Walton, Cassie Carter, Katrina Carter; and special great-granddaughter, Hanna Hammons. Funeral services will be held today, May 28, 2005, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Hartselle with the Rev. Harold Thompson officiating with burial in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery and Peck Funeral Home directing. Family visitation will be today from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church Building Fund, PMB 212, 9340 Helena Road, Suite F, Birmingham, AL 35244-1747. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Vincent’s CVICU and physicians for their love and compassion. Published in the Decatur Daily on 5/28/2005.

We are seeking information regarding his military and civilian life. I am a retired Hoosier from Madison County residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. We are seeking family and military information about servicemen from your county killed in the South Pacific during World War II. There are 17,206 Americans buried here and thousands more that are missing or buried at sea and are honored on the “Tablets of the Missing”. Please visit our website to see the beautiful memorial located in Manila, Philippines. http://fizkid.tripod.com/ My wife and I visited the cemetery as visitors and left with a mission in our heart. We have been taking photographs of the graves of the Indiana servicemen buried here and have been uniting them (at no charge) with their family members in Indiana and across the United States. To receive the photo of your family member, neighbor or friend all you need is a working email address. We do not send them to regular mailing addresses due to the costs. Please help us find the families of the men that might still be living. Our project is only successful because of teamwork and your contributions are noted on our website. If you wish to help us we will be pleased to add your name to our ACKNOWLEDGMENT page on the website. The obituaries usually did not appear till to three months after the death date. If you are not a genealogist you can help by just picking up the telephone directory and find someone with the same last name and give them a call. It has worked many times for us.
