I have tried to decipher the Will of Benjamin BRIMER in Pendleton District SC 1803 as best I could, the following is what I could decipher it to be: SOUTH CAROLINA Pendleton District By John HARRIS, Esq. Ordinary Personally appeared before me Jonathan WATSON who being duly sworn doth make oath & say that he saw Benjamin BRIMER sign, seal & publish the same as his Last Will and Testament & that the S.(said/same) Benjamin was of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding to the best of his knowledge & belief and that he the S. Johnathan WATSON did sign his name as a witness thereto at the request of the testator & in his presence & qualified William LENNARD, Executor. Given under my hand this 30th day of September 1803. John HARRIS, Esq. Ord June 22, 1803??? Memorandam of the Last Will and Testament of Benjamin BRIMER of the State of South Carolina and Pendleton District. I heareth? that J.(?) Benjamin BRIMER being sick of body but of a perfect mind: FIRST: I dwo (dower?) bequeath into my wife Rebecka BRIMER all my moveable property, goods & chattel according to the intent I have of and no man is to interfere. This property is to be divided as follows at her decease: One third part to be given to Jesy BRIMER One third part to be given to Nancy MASSEY? One third part to be given to Bety LEONARD I likewise dwo (dower?) give and bequeath unto Caty GABEN fifty dollars. I likewise dwo (dower?) and bequeath unto Rebecka BRIMER, the child of Sam BRIMER, deceased five pounds sterling. I likewise dwo (dower?) and bequeath into the undernamed persons five shillings apeace?: William BRIMER, Sally, Nancy, J...? BRIMER. I likewise dwo (dower?) desire William LEONARD to see to this business. Given under my hand this day and year above written. Present: Ben (X) BRIMER (his mark) G. BROOKS Jonathan WATSON ____________duly sworn saith that he saw Benjamin BRIMER sign the within Testaments as his Last Will and Testament and that he saw Jonathan WATSON a witness with himself. Sworn and testified? this 29 day of June 1803. John BROOKS Hezekiah DAVIS, J.P. On 19 September 1803 a Rebecca BRIMER and Joseph? BRIMER made suit to a John HARRIS, Esquire, Ordinary, to grant them letters of Administration of the Estate and effects of Benjamin BRIMER, late of Pendleton District. WARRANT OF APPRAISAL South Carolina Pendleton District By John HARRIS Esquire, Ordinary. These are to authorize and empower you, or any three or four of you, whose names are hereunto written, to repair to such parts and places, within this state, as you shall be directed unto by: William LEONARD, Executor of the Last Will and Testament of Benjamin BRIMER, late of Pendleton District, deceased, whereforever any of the goods and chattels of the said deceased are or do remain within the said parts and placaes, and which shall be shewn unto you by the said Executor.......and there view and appraise all and every the said goods and chattels, being first sworn on the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God, to make a true and perfect inventory and appraisal thereof, and to cause the same to be returned under your hands, or any three or four of you, to the said William LEONARD on or before the first Friday of November now next ensuing. Dated the thirtieth day of September in the year of our Lord 1803, and in the twenty eighth year of American Independence. TO: Lemual DEAN, Tefra? John HARRIS, Ordinary's Office On the fifteenth day of October the persons listed above appeared before John HARRIS to be sworn in as appraisers to the Estate of Benjamin BRIMER. This page is so smeared that it is impossible to decipher further. The Estate of Benjamin BRIMER, dec'd ______to be sold on the Second Friday of November next on a credit of three months and the within petitioner be allowed one third part to support on while the other? two thirds of the whole ????? Given under my hand this 29th day of October 1803. John HARRIS, Esq. SOUTH CAROLINA Pendleton District To John HARRIS, Esq. Ordinary for Pendleton District Your petitioner Rebecka DAVIS formerly the Widow of Benjamin BRIMER, dec'd, Prays that the property left me while I live by B. BRIMER'S Will, you would order the Executors to sell the same as it is burdensome? to me and & out of my power to take care of the whole of it & allow me one third part to support on instead of the whole. October the 20th, 1803 V. N. (Van?) DAVIS Rebecca DAVIS ACCORDING TO THE ABOVE: Rebecca BRIMER married a Van or V. N. DAVIS between September 19, 1803 and October 20, 1803.................... Return of the property belonging to the Estate of Benjamin BRIMER, deceas. & sold at publick vandice according to law by William LEONARD, Executor on the 12th day of November 1803 in South Carolina Pendleton District. FIVE page inventory showing item; who bought it and price they paid...... NOTE: This is my interpretation of this Will and Estate Settlement of Benjamin BRIMER; if there are different interpretations of the words, I would like to have them to make this Will as correct as possible.
