His Texas pension application says he was in Company C of Gillian-Waters regiment, but I haven't been able to find one scrap of documentation for anything close to that" -------------------------------------------------------------------------. If you live in Texas - it would be worth your time to go to visit one of the top two Confederate Research Center in the United States (the other is in Stony Brook, NY) - The Confederate Research Center is located within the Harold B. Simpson History Center, part of Hill County Jr. College. Go to: http://www.hill-college.cc.tx.us/museum/crc.html - - there you will a Veteran Reearch Form to complete and submit ($15.00) - - Texas CSA volunteers were a rough and tough bunch, were known as the "rowdy bunch", but when push came to shove - All regiments wanted Texas survivors, Texas prisoners released from USA prisons, they PROVED themselves in many ways that still can't be explained. From the infantry to the Rangers the units were constantly transferred from one regiment to another, regiments were combined - it's hard to pin down one individual. - submit the form, contain information you have from the CSA Pension Application - state you would like surviving muster rolls, and history of units in which he served. I wasn't as fortunate to be able to find my ancestor's Texas Pension Application - did find his name on the original muster roll, but that was it - The personnel at the above Confederate Center helped me find him - my CSA guy was originally a Ranger, dismounted, moved to infantry - changed commands several times, found about 3-4 muster rolls - found where he was through command and muster rolls, and finally placed him at Arkansas Post where he died - Arkansas Post was an earthen Post, and all records destroyed t's a fascinating story of how so many people help me find additional information on my CSA guy, and it started with his enlistment roster in a county (not even where he lived) - then to the Confederate Research Center - they were instrumental in helping find the commands he was under - that gave me additional clues to pursue - once you have the muster rolls and MOST IMPORTANTLY the history of the units as they changed since his original enlistment muster roll.
