I was running down some info from Virginia in the 1700's and found where a certain fellow named "van der Bruck" put language in the deed indicating he was now to be referred to as "Bridges." Wish I'd have hung onto it...seems like it was in Prince William county, does that sound right to anyone familiar with VA? Seems like if van der Bruck could be translated into Bridges then the German equivalent could be also. Might want to find the German equivalent and see if it pops up anywhere in the location you think he might have come from/through.
