The first white settler in the area that was to eventually become Atlanta (a chap named Hardy Ivy) came in 1833. It was several years before he was joined by others. What was to be Atlanta was known by earlier names, among them White Hall in 1837 (unofficial), Terminus in 1838, Marthasville in 1843, and, finally, in 1847, Atlanta was chartered, some 30 plus years after William Crawford Bridges' birth.
