    1. Re: [BRIDGES-L] DNA & North Carolina Bridges
    2. Graham, I was born in (actually on a farm near) Alba, TX. - about 80 miles east of Dallas, and between Alba and Quitman. We moved to Lufkin in Jan 1939, and I attended grade, Jr. Hi (now referred to as middle), and high school in Lufkin. I spent 4 yrs in the USAF, then got my BSEE from Univ. of Houston. I retired from NASA Ames Research Center, and stayed here in San Jose. Most of my relatives still live in Lufkin. The only one of my father's generation is my aunt, who is still living in Lufkin. One of my nephew's, Ronnie Bridges was killed in his home in Houston by a man who was hiding out in his attic, after robbing a video store. You may have seen the America's Most Wanted story about it. I have not done the DNA test yet, but plan to do so!! Thanks for the reply! We possibly are cousins a long way back. My James M. Bridges was born around 1812 the year could vary one way or other by a year. However, he married Mary Matilda Pressley in Henry County, GA in 1833. I'm inclined to believe that he was born in Jackson Co. GA or Jackson Co. SC since my Dad always said that he was born in Jackson, SC. Since he was not born at that time and knew no one except his grandmother(daughter-in-law) that was personally acquainted with James M., no one is sure where he was born nor who his parents were. He did not leave a good trail of his activities until he arrived in Henry County. I think that he moved there with his future wife's family. Family lore says that he was an employee of his future father-in-law. Elijah Pressley was an attorney and there is no record to indicate whether he was an apprentice to the law or just a farm hand. Thanks for letting me know where you are. What town in Wood County were you born? So far haven't either >My line of migration NC > TN > MS > AL > TX ( Dallas ). Here's another one. My migration goes from GA > northern MS > Northeast TX > Houston. My brick wall back in GA in early 1800's is Wiseman Bridges, born 1816 (not the Wiseman that shows up in the late 1700's, although I've tried to connect the two). >I know where Alba is, my mother was raised in Yantis TX, about 10 miles N. >of Quitman. That's interesting. My line settled in Newsome (Upshur - later Camp county) which is right on the Wood county border, not far from Quitman. Rusty Webster,TX
