I ordered the test and paid with a credit card and had the kit sent to my Dad. It works well that way if you don't mind the credit card payment on the Internet. JLewis

Graham, I was born in (actually on a farm near) Alba, TX. - about 80 miles east of Dallas, and between Alba and Quitman. We moved to Lufkin in Jan 1939, and I attended grade, Jr. Hi (now referred to as middle), and high school in Lufkin. I spent 4 yrs in the USAF, then got my BSEE from Univ. of Houston. I retired from NASA Ames Research Center, and stayed here in San Jose. Most of my relatives still live in Lufkin. The only one of my father's generation is my aunt, who is still living in Lufkin. One of my nephew's, Ronnie Bridges was killed in his home in Houston by a man who was hiding out in his attic, after robbing a video store. You may have seen the America's Most Wanted story about it. I have not done the DNA test yet, but plan to do so!! Thanks for the reply! No Graham, I didn't know him personally, I don't know what year he was in either...I had a friend that was a good ball player Jim Shepard... I have a cousin that is related on the other side of the family that married into a Bridges family, but she will not tell us anything, she is in her 80's and says the past should be left there... her name is Codella Bridges if any one can connect to her...They grew up around Beaumont TX hugs, Gay > Gay > > Lake Houston is the Lake that is between Kingwood and Humble. When I was in High School, we played Baytown in some real close games in the play-offs. We didn't always win, either! I went to Ray High School in Corpus Christi, and that was in the early '50s. Boerne is a gorgeous place! Ever go out to Tapitio Springs? Love it! Velma
Yes the Goslings were quite a team, people said if you lived in Baytown, you worked at Humble and loved football... I was at Robert E. Lee , now the town has two high schools... No Velma, I don't know where that is, but I have forgotten a lot of places that I knew then....Old age sets in... I do remember Port La Vodca (sp) was that near you? My uncle was a Shrimper, and on the ham set at his house I could hear a lot of people from there trying to contact other shrimpers out in the Gulf of Mexico and my uncle had the largest ban reach in those days and he would patch the family members on to the shrimpers out in the Gulf... wow, I haven't thought of that in years.. hugs to you, Gay ----- Original Message ----- From: <Vrgfdonna@aol.com> To: <BRIDGES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, November 14, 2003 3:01 PM Subject: Re: [BRIDGES-L] Baytown and Boerne, Tx. > When I was in High School, we played Baytown in some real close games in the > play-offs. Gay Lake Houston is the Lake that is between Kingwood and Humble. Since you grew up in Baytown did you by chance know a guy named Plowden Bridges? When I was in high school there was a guy that played for Baytown by that name. He was about 6'5" tall at the time. There were also an Allen Wilkerson that went to high school in Baytown that is a cousin from the Bridges side of my bunch. I never did find out if Plowden was related to me. I live in Boerne, Tx. It's about 28 miles NW of San Antonio just in the edge of the Hill Country. I've never heard of Portland. It must be on the big River! Good to find out about another cousin. Graham; In reference to your last post about Jackson SC. There is a Jackson in Aiken County SC. There is no Jackson County SC . As far as I know , there never was one. Aiken County does border Georgia, so maybe the Jackson you are looking for is the town in Aiken. Hope that helps. Bill Bridges Spartanburg,SC

Elizabeth Bridges, 60, born NC, living Catoosa, area Blackstock 1870 Ga. Census. Her sons were Joseph, Henry P and Robert Thomas Bridges. All were in War Between the States with 36th Ga, CSA. Possible husband of Elizabeth could have been Herold/Harrall Bridges who was dead by 1850. Elizabeth was living with a Louisa Deadman, on 1870 Catoosa Census. Does anyone connect with this family? Where is Blackstock area of Catoosa County? gerald preas dallas tx

That is an interesting twist!! Could it be related to what my father told me, many years ago? He said that the family name had been changed, and that it way Bridget (or something that sounded like that). Then there is the 1900 Wood County census that lists my gf (Rober Lee) as Breydet!! Sure would like to know the story behing all this. I have not asked my Aunt, and only living person from my dad's generatiion, what she knows about it. She is the one who told me that RL's mother was a Sells. Good to hear from you again, Barbara. I found him in the 1900 census living with his oldest daughter and it states that he was born in Tennessee in May, 1813. It also shows that his father was born in Germany and his mother born in North Carolina. Where would I look for information on his parent? I find nothing on Bridges being a German name. Has anyone else run across any Bridges that came from Germany? Was there a German settlement in Tennessee at that time frame---1810-1820? All help appreciated. Barbara blgt@aol.com

You can pay via credit card or request an invoice but an invoice will be included with the Test Kit and that will only work if the person receiving the test kit it the one paying for it. We offer two tests for this project, the 12 marker, Y-DNA and the 25 marker, Y-DNAplus. We recommend the 25 marker test, but, of course, it costs more than the other, so the choice is yours to make. They will be the first two choices in the dropdown menu after your name and address. After you have joined, I will send you an email telling you what we need next, i.e. your ancestor chart, etc. The website is: http://www.small-stuff.com/BRIDGES/ Julia

If I remember correctly you are somewhere in the Humble, TX, Harris County, area. If my memory is correct we probably have crossed paths and didn't know it. I just moved from Atascocita on Lake Houston about 2 years ago. Let me know what your tree looks like. I am still trying to find the parentage of my ggGrandfather James M. Bridges. I think he must be from one of James "the Spy's" brothers.
