Gloria I am interested in your line of Bridges. I was corresponding with Billye Bridges and we lost track of each other. I thought that she was going to have someone get into the DNA group and we were looking forward to finding our link if there was one. Linda Baskins lives in Bedias and we have established that we are cousins though sources other than DNA. Are you going to have anyone in the DNA group? To whom it may interest: James "the spy" Bridges had a daughter Celia who married Thomas Watson on 6 Dec 1804 in Oglethorpe Co, GA. Thomas Watson is listed as an heir in James' estate papers, but that is the only info I have on them. However, I think this may be her on the 1850 census: 1850 Census - Muscogee Co, GA Edmund Dillard - 46 - Farmer - born Fairfield, S.C. Alvena Dillard - 39 - born Gwinnet Co, GA Celia Watson - 82 - born Wake Co, NC (Yes, this census actually lists the county of birth. Thanks, Mr. Census Taker!) A WorldConnect gedcom lists Edmund Dillard as marrying Alvina Watson in Gwinnet Co, GA in 1826. The gedcom lists four children for them: Celia Dillard - born 1827 in Gwinnet Co, GA Pamela Dillard - born 1828 in Gwinnet Co, GA Movada Meredith Dillard - born 1830 in Gwinett Co, GA Mary "Polly" Dillard - born 1832 in Gwinnett Co, GA Does anyone have any additional info about Celia Bridges Watson and her family? I don't know where Wood Co. is, but I loved the Ft. Worth City Library Genealogy Dept.
Unfortunely my father died 2002, his sister 1999, no other males exist, as my brother died 2003. No known male cousins.
The Dallas Public Library has an awesome genealogy department! >I don't know where you live but if > you live near Dallas you should be able to find a good library to go to for > some of the research. I'm not as >familiar with Dallas. There is a small genealogy section in the library in Quitman. I found useful stuff there on my line when I visited a few years ago. The Wood County courthouse in Quitman burned down in the late 1800's or early 1900's, if I remember right, so there may be less help there.
Sue Tell me what you have done so far to try to find any relatives. Have you asked any of your fathers brothers or sisters if they know of any cousins? If you have any brothers you might be able to get started with a trace by having them send in their DNA information. If you are interested in that just address a note on the Bridges-Ll@rootsweb.com to Julia Woods. She has any of the information that you might need about the test. Try looking at the 1920 census for the place where you Dad was born. If his family still lived in the county you should be able to find something there to start with. Do you know who his parents were? That's where you will find him listed in the census. In the household of the parents. If he lived somewhere other than with his parents you may have to find out if there were any Aunts or Uncles of either of your own or your grandparents. Let me know how you are doing. If you need any other ideas or help let me know. I may or may not be able to help. I don't know where you live but if you live near Dallas you should be able to find a good library to go to for some of the research. I know there is a good one in Houston. I'm not as familiar with Dallas. Hi Graham: My DNA sample just went in last week so it will be awhile. My suspicion is that I descend from Benjamin who lived in Greenville County in the mid 1750's. I hope the test helps confirm that. Talk more later Bill Bridges Spartanburg,SC
Bill You may very well be right. I know that my ggggrandfather Elijah Pressley was born in the Edgefield District and was an attorney. I think that district is right in the middle of where you are talking about. Bill have you ever found out whether your DNA matches up with any of ours? Jeannie Bridges Lewis's dad lives in Spartanburg, SC and has been around there for many years. He is a perfect match with me and several others. If I understand recent DNA results, which is not a given, descendants of the Bridges folks in Henry, Coweta, and Carroll Counties, Georgia seem to be perfect matches with Nathaniel's known descendant. Perhaps they are Darrell's descendants. Just a shot in the dark. Bob Johnston

Several months ago we began Y-DNA testing of Bridges males to determine their lineage, as the Y-DNA is passed from father to son, to son, forever, therefore, every directly related male will have the same DNA which makes it possible to find which lines are related when the paper research doesn't have the documents that we need to prove relationship. We have had lots of fun and excitement with this project and you can read about the project and view the results on the project website. Click on "DNA Test Results" to see all the matches which are colored to show that they match and click on the Test # to see the Ancestor charts. http://small-stuff.com/BRIDGES/ Julia French Wood List and DNA Project Adm.

My husband's great grandfather Dave Teague was married to a Sarah Bridges, they were from Louisiana and we think later came here to Texas. I can't find any other information on Sarah. Lena Teague Allen, Texas
Gerald, I have an Elizabeth BRIDGES married to Nehemiah PADGETT. Elizabeth was born in 1786 in N.C., and her father was Isaac BRIDGES. She died in 1850 in Jackson Co., Al. Were there any PADGETTS married to or living near your BRIDGES? I have wondered if they came to Al. from N.C. together. Velma
Velma I am in process of moving folders, will check later this week for you. gerald --- Vrgfdonna@aol.com wrote: > Gerald, > I have an Elizabeth BRIDGES married to Nehemiah > PADGETT. Donna Find you a Bridges man in your line and have him submit for the DNA test. You may find that you are a part of some of the Bridges that you least expect. I have found 7 cousins that all come from the same ancestral line but have not found the total common link. It really is exciting. Wow, I didn't know there were so many different Bridges lines in Texas. My husband's Bridges family settled in Shelby County, Texas. They go back to John Bridges and Lydia Warner. This line goes through Wilkinson and Bibb Counties, Georgia then Dale County, Alabama to Shelby County, Texas. I believe this line is related to the James M. Bridges who married Irena Powell, but have not found any proof. I am interested in the DNA project, my husband and 3 sons are all Bridges men. I just don't have the extra money at this time.
