    3. Ida, I have not really searched BRIDGES families. Most of my information was sent to me by other researchers. Yes, I am familiar with the variations of name spellings many of which were misunderstandings of verbal information given to scribes. An example is my grandfather (lots of greats) Burwell DAVIS. Many of his descendants were named Burrell. That was the way the name was pronounced. Another example is the name TALIAFERRO which was later TOLLIVER. 3. Dear BRIDGES Researchers (especially Rhonda), I am at a brick wall, which, I think, will open for me after the holidays, IF I can find any time to drive across this large metropolitian area to the FHC to look at their microfilm of "The Battle Book". In the mean time, I am hoping that you know of any connection between what I have & what you have. I have no location for my line before 1807 when my GGG grandfather, Wm Clayton BRIDGES, was born in Springfield, TN. All following ancestors, down through my father were born there. And, all, except my father, also died there. Wm Clayton had a son who was his Junior. Wm Clayton (Jr) was b 20 Nov 1836 & d 23 March 1869. He m/ my Mary Amelia FORT in 1865. Their son, John Thompson BRIDGES, was b 15 Feb 1866 & d 8 Jan 1949. He m/ Gillie McMurry on 21 April 1887. John & Gillie's son, Frank Clayton BRIDGES, Sr, was b 12 Nov 1888 & d 13 June 1935. He m/ Rebecca Florence SMITH on 14 April 1920. Frank (Sr) & Rebecca were my grandparents. 3. Hello to all BRIDGES list members: Now is when I absolutely MUST apologize to everyone for not having started this list as I had planned. I do realize that I had told everyone with whom I had had BRIDGES contact that I would begin this list after my 2 weeks in my homestate of MO. Unfortunately, those 2 weeks (when I went to spend more time working on the estates of both my dear sister & her husband who were killed in June by a drunk driver) turned into a month due to Mother's becoming ill shortly after my arrival and her ending up in the hospital. She also turned all of her estate over to me to run for her. Also, I am trying to help my neice & nephew deal with losing their partents along with helping my husband's & my own 4 children. I AM very sorry to have let everyone down. Anyway, this computer stuff is my escape from the pressures of life!! So, please, everyone say a HUGH thank you to Julia for stepping in to help me by getting this list started!! 3. Hi, I am researching the surname BRIDGENS. Is that close enough? My Robert Bridgens was in Northumberland County, PA in the 1790 census. He was married to Nancy Bennett, daughter of Thomas Bennett. It is said that Robert Bridgens came from Manchester, England. This has not been proven. Any help will be appreciated. Ida Kirkwood

Hi, It seems to me that I have seen some info on these names at GenForum.com under the name Bridges.. check it out....Nelda ----- Original Message ----- From: Jacquelyn <jebean@mcc4u.com> To: <BRIDGES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 14, 2000 7:16 AM Subject: [BRIDGES-L] Bridges of MS and TX > Hello All! > I've been lurking for several days reading each posting but so far, no connection with "my" Bridges... Am looking for Mary Frances Bridges b 09/05/1840 d unk date presumably in TX, m Newton (James Newton) Hoye abt 1860. It is assumed that both were from Mississippi, but that may be incorrect. Mary's father (from what I can determine) was Daniel B. Bridges b 06/30/1812 d 08/25/1845. He married Elizabeth "T" (this has become faded and is not clear in the original Bible record that I have - it could be the letter "F"). Daniel and Elizabeth had 3 other children in addition to Mary Frances and they were: > William J. Bridges b 11/17/1841 d 09/21/1862 > Nathaniel C. Bridges b 10/20/1843 d 06/13/1862 (his name is spelled "Nathaiel" in the Bible record) > Elizabeth H.
