    3. Hi, I found references to Wm Clayton BRIDGES at this site: http://www.familytreemaker.com/cgi-bin/iff I've done a lot of digging to try to figure out how to work with the given information and on how to contact the person who put up the information but have had no luck. I know that some were put there by my sister before her untimely death this past June. I also know that some were put there by other people. Please send me some idea on dealing with this information. THANKS!! 3. Hi Charles, For the life of me, I cannot understand why your post did not reach me the other way. THANK YOU so much for trying this way. I did not even know that there was a problem as I have been receiving a lot of posts. You mention a book that you have. Will you please look in it to see if there is any mention of the Bridges people about whom I posted to you? I have found a cousin whom my mother has known nearly since she met Daddy close to 60 years ago. She has a copy of "The Battle Book" and I'm working on trying to get pages copied out of it after the holidays. I was able to get 50 pages by trying to borrow the book through the inter-library loan program. That book has some Bridges stuff in it. With the EXTREMELY trying times of the last 6 months for my family, I've not had time to go to the HFC across the metro area but one time. They have a microfilm copy of this book. I own a copy of the book "A Family Named Fort". After things calm down a little, I plan to offer look ups to this group. Until later, Leslie ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ McMurry, Pitt, Mantle, Barry, Fort, Glenn, Holman, Letzy, Clinkscales, McKnight, Foster, Neumann, Loud, Berry, Thomas, Combs, Hudson, Floyd, Horn, Scott, Moore, Mitchell, Isom, Fox, Bridges, Hundley,Koehler/Kohler, Ives, Barnes, and others ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ---------- > From: Charles Ray <CharleR@nmail.epcc.edu> > To: BRIDGES-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Jphn Bridge family > Date: Saturday, December 13, 1997 8:40 PM > > I originally received a message from Leslie Bridges Kohler and the attached is > my response which did not reach her. 3. My gr, grandfather, Moses Bridges, was born abt. 1810 in NC and married Elizabeth (?). Was this the Moses Bridges who married Elizabeth Yarborough in 1826 in Lincoln Co., NC? He and Elizabeth were in Webster Co., MS by 1850. He was later married to Martha (possibly Jester) as there were Jester children living in household. His son, L.M. (Lucine Marceline) Bridges, was born May 1, 1858 in NC, married Cordelia Brock and died May 25, 1913 in Sapa, Webster Co., MS. Their son, James Estelle Bridges, born April 1, 1883 in Sapa, MS was my grandfather. After Crodelia's death in 1890, Lucine married Amanda Louisa Sealy Eudy. Is this the same Moses Bridges who was in Oglethorpe Co., GA in 1830? Any help on this family would be appreciated.

    1. An Introduction
    2. Jim Bridges
    3. As a brand new subscriber to the list, I thought I would introduce myself. I am a descendant of Revolutionary War drummer boy George Benjamin Bridges, b 12 Feb 1762 in Ellizabethtown, NC, d 20 Oct 1834 in Jarvis twp., Madison, IL. George m Nancy Edwards in 1788 in Newberry co., SC. As best as I have been able to determine, George moved to KY ca 1798. He, his sons and daughter then moved into Illinois ca 1811-1814, settling in the St. Clair and Madison county areas. They are my 4G grandparents. Three of George's sons then moved to Harrison co., MO in 1848, where they help found the town of Eagleville. My direct line, however, stayed in St. Clair county until the present generation. George had a brother, William, who settled in Kentucky. Some of William's children, in turn, moved into Sangamon county, Illinois in the early 1800s. As a family historian, I am trying to trace as many descendants of George and William as possible - down to the present day. George's and William's ancestry is somewhat vague - with some suggestions that they may be grandchildren or great grandchildren of Charles Bridges, a limner who emigrated to America but then returned to England, leaving a son and daughter on this side of the Atlantic. Paintings attributed to this Charles Bridges hang in the Great Hall of William & Mary College. If this list has a moderator, I would appreciate a private e-mail letting me know the rules, norms, etc. Jim Bridges St. Clair Co. 3. Shirley, I too research the BRIDGES of Rutherford co NC. Could the lineages be the same? My hubby is of Moses BRIDGES, born 12 Oct 1773 & died 1830 in Simpson co MS. He married 17 Jan 1796 to Mary BLACKBURN, who was born 8 Jul 1774. Known children of Moses & Mary: 1) Ephriam 1797 Rutherford co NC-29 Dec 1851 Copiah co MS, marr ca 1816 in Franklin co TN to Jane VANZANT 2) Samuel 1799 NC-ca 1842, marr ca 1827 to Nancy TATUM 3) William 1802 NC-25 May 1850, marr 14 Feb 1833 to Eliza HALL 4) Robert 1809 TN or NC-9 Feb 1875, marr 1 Mar 1832 to Sevilla WILLIAMS 5) Rebecca born 1810 TN/NC, marr Byrd WILLIAMS 6) Catherine 1812 TN/NC-18 Nov 1898, marr William T. SANDIFER 7) Blackburn born 1815 TN/NC, marr Rebecca HILL 8) Matilda who marr John POWELL 9) ?possible son: James who marr Allie GLOVER Hubby's line is through above #2 son, Samuel & wife Nancy TATUM. Their children: 1) Parham Plummer 1829 MS-10 Oct 1886 LA, marr 21 Dec 1849 MS to Penelope P. THOMPSON & Martha TANNER 2) Caroline ca 1832 MS-ca 1852, marr ca 1850 to William F. RHYMES 3) Palatire/Palatine 1833 MS-1924 LA, marr 17 Apr 1849 to John L. BELL 4) Mary who died ca 1861 5) James M. 1839-died Aug 1864 Civil War Hubby's line continues through above #1 son, Parham Plummer "P.P", who was his great grandfather. P.P. (as listed in most records) was a Confederate soldier & had 13 children between his 2 wives. Do you have any records that might prove my Moses BRIDGES, born 1773, could be the son of your listed Moses & Sarah, the son of William, born 1726? Two people researching this line have suggested that our Moses was the son of William born 1726 (including some records at the archives in Raleigh NC), however I have always felt the years did not seem correct. The years would seem more reasonable for my Moses to be a son of Moses & granson of William. In the published history of Rutherford co NC, it does show a William born 1726 & married ca 1745 VA as having sons John & Moses. Your thoughts???? Joyce

    3. Many folks seem to have Bridges in NC. I have another William. From various histories of my husband's Bridges family, we have: WILLIAM: supposedly came directly from ENgland to NC "in the colonial period" and settled there, died there. Wife unknown. County of residence unknown. His only known son (there must have been more children): FRANCIS BRIDGES born c 1779 in NC, died after 1850 in Carrol Co TN Moved to TN in 1815 and settled in Maury Co (what is now Marshall) bought land, farmed, then moved to MISSISSIPPI only for 2 years, came back to Carroll CO TN c 1817. His first wife was SARAH CAUDLE/CADLE, dau of Jessee Caudle. With her had has several children, including James D. Bridges. ALso believe his children were George, David, Henry T., Isaac, 2 other males, and at least 5 daughters. Sarah Caudle died and he remarried a widow named MATILDA MOORE in Carroll Co TN. They had: female M.F. born 1845; Joseph S born 1850 and Lorry A born 1848 JAMES DARLIN BRIDGES born in NC (poss Fayette Co?) 1808 died in LaClede Co MO in Feb 1863. Married #1 in Maury Co TN ELIZABETH THOMPSON, dau of Benjamin Thompson and Sarah Shefner. He moved around a LOT, and his children were born in TN, MS, and KY: Jesse C. Bridges b 1829 in TN Henry Thompson Bridges b 1831 in TN Charlotte C Bridges b 1836 in MS William M Bridges b 1840 in TN Benjamin Bridges b 1842 in KY Sarah Bridges b 1842 in KY James D. took the family to Johnson Co IL before 1850, c 1844. He abandoned the family in about 1852 and moved to La CLede CO MO where he married Anny Wisdon in 1853 Of his children, Henry Thompson is my husband's ancestor. He married Mary ELizabeth Carter, dau of Vincent Carter and Elizabeth Rose. They lived their entire lives in Vienna, Johnson Co IL. He died 26 July 1902. His sister Charlotte married Neill Carter, a 1/2 brother of Mary Eliz. Carter. His brother WIlliam M married Elizabeth COrnish Brother Benjamin married Mary A Hainline Brother Jesse C married #1 Jane E Burch and #2 Mercy Carter Henry Thompson Bridges and Mary E Carter had 5 children. 2 of the brothers, William Francis and James Harrison, went to Oklahoma. Dau. Amanda Belle married #1 ANdrew Smith and #2 a Cowsert Dau Mary Vesta married Isaac Hogue/Hogg If ANYONE has information about WILLIAM and his wife, and proof to connect FRANCIS to him, I would be forever grateful. So, please, everyone say a HUGH thank you to Julia for stepping in to help me by getting this list started!! >> Leslie, Thanks are not necessary. I only began the list to get it going, since you couldn't at the time. All of you feel free to do whatever you like in requard to getting postings started on this list. It is a slow time of year, and we will be more active after the holidays. Remember, every message will be archived. This is great for me, as it means that I don't have to save each and every message that I might want to refer to later. It, also, means that we must be more responsible for our posts. In this requard, please be sure that the subject line reflects the subject of your post. If you are replying to a message, it is perfectly OK to leave the subject as is, and just hit reply. This creates a thread to follow. However, if the subject changes, please change the subject line on your reply. If you have a personal message for the previous poster, copy and paste their address in the "To" line before sending, and erase the BRIDGES-L address. Personal messages about ourselves and our families are welcome on the list. After all, we are family, and it is good to get to know one another. For instance, when my new grandchild arrives later this month, you can be sure that you will hear about it. Happy Hunting, and have a wonderful Holiday. Julia

    3. Hello, I'm researching an Ezekial J. Bridges b. abt. 1821 or so who was in Greene Co. GA in the 1850 census with his new wife Elizabeth Smith. He was living near Hardy Bridges and his family so if he isn't a son to Hardy, then he's a younger brother. These families picked up and moved to Attala Co., MS by 1860. I've seen mention of Oglethorpe Co., GA and that's real interesting since I believe Greene Co. was formed from Oglethorpe. (Please correct me if I'm wrong...) Anne Wise WiserM@aol.com

Charles' father and grandfather were both named John. Seems like there have been a lot of John Bridges. There are several in my direct line. I'm sure this list will prove to be interesting.
