    3. Hi everyone, I'm looking for some information on Mary "Polly" Bridges, sister of Billy Bridges, who married John Settle 28 Dec 1824 in Oglethorpe County, GA. When my mom was doing this research some time ago, she scribbled down some notes from a "History of Oglethorpe County". Her notes say... "Solomon Bridges, brother of William Bridges. Both came from Ireland to Savannah, GA. Both later went to Oglethorpe. Children of Solomon Bridges: William Bridges, married Martha Jordon 8 Sept 1824 David Bridges, never married James Bridges Daughter - married Deadwyler Daughter - married Settles Daughter - married Adams" Anyone hear of these guys? 3. Hello all you Bridges researchers! I've enjoyed reading all of your postings and learning about other Bridges families. I found some info in this book called "Gone To Georgia" at the library that had tons of Bridges names in just a few paragraphs, some originally from NC, some moving on to AL. I decided to share it with y'all just in case someone might be able to use it. I'm not a longtime researcher but I thought this was real interesting (especially since I just recently received info that a Wiley J. Bridges is the father of my Ezekiel J. Bridges)... Happy Hunting....Anne (WiserM@aol.com) from: Gone To Georgia Jackson and Gwinnett Counties and their Neighbors in the Western Migration Compiled and with an introduction by William C. Stewart National Genealogical Society 1965 p. 75 **This is an enumeration of Joshua Bridges in 1820 Jackson Co., GA** 318. Joshua Bridges 100010 - 20010-0 Also in Jackson Co., 1820 was Aaron (No. 335); and in Gwinnett County, Wiley (No. 521) and Soloman (No. 619). John was in Morgan County where in 1827, Susannah, widow of a Revolutionary soldier, participated in the lottery); and others were in Jasper (where Wiseman in 1827, also a veteran, drew Lee County land granted 1836), Jones, Washington, Greene, Putnam and Oglethorpe Counties. Joshua in 1827 was listed in Hall County. Nathaniel, Thomas and Wiseman were in the Ellsberry district of Wilkes County, 1785 tax list, and Benjamin and another Thomas in Karr's district. One Thomas died c1790 leaving widow Susannah as administratrix with Wiseman and Jonathan (see Jones county 1820) as securities. Nathaniel was appointed administrator of David Bridges estate in Wilkes County jan. 26, 1790, with James Bridges and Drury Cade as securities; David's heirs were Berry T., Bayns or Barnes, Merrell, Nancy and Jesse Bridges; and a Daniel Bridges made a purchase from the estate. Nathaniel Bridges (also spelled Bridgers) married Writter Simms in Wake County, N.C., 1778. Nathaniel's will (Feb. 2 1809/ July 7, 1809; Oglethorpe County, Ga., Will Book B, p. 35) named his wife Ritter; and children: Wiley Jones Bridges, Darrell D., Kiles Crawford Bridges, Esther, Bidde Jones Bridges, Polly C. , Patsy B. and Julia. His wife and William M. Stokes were appointed executors; James and Berry Bridges and John Luckie were witnesses. A number of marriages were recorded in Oglethorpe, including that of Aaron to Amey McDaniel, July 30, 1818, and others from 1796. The will of James Bridges (Feb. 10 1820/ Nov. 11, 1820, Oglethorpe, Will Book B, p. 185) named his wife Susannah, and appointed his son jacob, and George Crawford as executors. Witnesses were Robinson Hendon, Burwell Bridges and Violett Ponder. The Bridgers or Bridges family is found in Bertie Pct., N.C., as early as 1728 and a generation earlier in York, isle of Wight and other Virginia counties. One Richard Bridges took land in St. Clair County, ALa., Oct 11, 1820 and was enumerated there that year with his family and 12 slaves. Other members of the family settled in Calhoun, Wilcox and Washington Counties, Ala. Another branch of the family became established in Botetourt County, Va., where Mary Bridger married William Dougherty Jan. 30, 1786, on a bond issued in adjoining Rockbridge County, two days earlier with James Stewart as security. John and James Bridges were spies on the frontier in what is now West Virginia; Their deaths at the hands of the indians on the Greenbriar River was described by John Day in his pension declaration based upon his service in Botetourt 1775-1776. James Bridges was among the first settlers in Kentucky, making a crop in what is now Madison County in 1775; years later we find Jim Bridger, the famous mountyain man, advising the Mormons they could raise as good corn in Utah as was "ever raised in old Kentucky".

    3. Looking for any information of the following Bridges family. This is from a manuscript from my family: My earliest record of the BRIGDGES is that of my Grand-mother (Which is my great grandmother) Iske's father, Israel Perry Bridges, living in Mumfordwille, Ky. Here in Kentucky he met and married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Martha Linder. He was born in abt. 1827. Married Martha Linder, age 14. The record shows that he organized a "Wagon Train" and joined with the Mormons and left Kentucky to go to Iowa. They stopped over in Springfield, Illinois and it was during this stop over that my Grandmother, Nancy Ann Bridges was born on the 24th of November, 1846. Others on this Wagon train were Israel Linder and Phoebe Burkhart Linder (Mary Martha's parents) Elizabeth Bridges Linder and husband Rufus Linder (Mary Martha's brother) And other Linder and Bridges families. They settled near Newton, Jasper County, Iowa. Because of a sudden death of Israel Perry Bridges the Bridges Cemetery came about. It is located NW of Newton. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My interest would be in finding out about the Bridges of Kentucky and where they came from, who his parents might be and anyother information on the Bridges of that area.

    3. Thank you for the reply. There MAY BE a connection. I have the documents to prove back to Elisha BRIDGES. The 1860 Cherokee Co., TX Census has Sina BRIDGES with the children known to be ancestors. The birth places are all Tenn. The 1850 Franklin Co., TN Census has Elasha BRIDGES and wife Sina plus the same children. Elasha BRIDGES age 46, born in NC. All others born in TN. I have the marriage record for Elisha BRIDGES and Sina VANZANT in Franklin Co., TN 12 Dec 1844. Beyond that I am still searching. I love doing the research, but the "paying job" doesn't allow much time for it. Some data: 1840 Census, TN - No Elisha BRIDGES appears 1840 Census, NC - Two Elisha BRIDGES BRIDGES, Elisha LINC 093 Upper Re BRIDGES, Elisha L. LINC 093 Upper Re I had a researcher in Winchester (Franklin Co.) TN try and find probate, land etc records to learn more about Elisha BRIDGES. No luck. I have NOT started a search of the 1840 NC BRIDGES. It is next on my list. Probably won't get to it until next month. I will add you to my address book. If I find anything interesting I will forward it to you. If you don't mind I will also cc you on email correspondence ref my early BRIDGES search. Again, thank you for the response. John F. 3. Hi, All, I have recently updated my webpage and now have over 11,000 names in my database. Now wouldn't it be nice if they connected. (just kidding) Please pay a me a visit and let me know if you see any errors or improvements that could be made. The offer is still on for you to send me your URLs so that I can link them to my page. I plan to make a special page just for links. One for each of my surnames. From the welcome page, click on "Surname Page" and scroll down to the surname that you desire. The number beside the name is how many of that surname is in the database. I have 1120 FRENCHs, 460 HANCOCKs and 297 BRIDGES. I a page shows the ugly black ad, just hit the X at the upper right of the page and it will disappear to reveal the page. The URL is: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/5569/ Later, Julia French Wood
