    1. [BRIDGES-L] Re: Georgia Bridges
    2. ******** In response to L. D. McWilliams' inquiry: <<<< FIRST GENERATION 1. William Thomas BRIDGES was born in Wilkes County, Georgia. William Thomas BRIDGES married Lou BRUNNER and had the following children: +2 i. William Henry BRIDGES. 3 ii. Jabe BRIDGES. SECOND GENERATION 2. William Henry BRIDGES was born on 25 Jan 1873 in Lexington, Oglethorpe County, Georgia. He died on 3 Feb 1950 in Gary, Panola County, Texas. He was buried in Woods Cemetery, Tenaha, Panola County, Texas. He was married to Callie Nettie GUNTER (daughter of Thomas Winchester GUNTER and Annie Samantha WHEELIS) in Georgia. Callie Nettie GUNTER was born on 29 Apr 1879 in Georgia. She was born on 29 Apr 1879 in Lexington, Oglethorpe County, Georgia... >>>> ******** Unfortunately, I don't have much more about William BRIDGES than what I posted on 2/1/98 from "The History of Oglethorpe Co."--and while it's a good listing, the names show only middle initials (if that) and not full middle names. That makes it pretty confusing because it seems that every-other-BRIDGES in Oglethorpe Co. named their kid William :-) While I don't have anything definite on your William Thomas BRIDGES or William Henry BRIDGES, there probably is a connection. My *guess* (total speculation) based on William Henry's birth--25 Jan 1873 in Lexington, Oglethorpe County, Georgia--is that he was part of a branch parallel to mine (maybe thru Soloman???--If you'll notice from my 2/1 posting, my William had a brother Soloman BRIDGES who had a son named William. Maybe that's our link?) What makes this harder to piece together is my lack of any birth/death dates for my William BRIDGES. I also have no idea what year he came over from Ireland. What I do know is that my ancestor Richard Manoa BRIDGES, who's listed in William's "family group", was born Mar 7, 1848, and that while he went on to father 15 children of his own, he showed some creativity and none of them were named William. Good luck in your search-- catgs@aol.com

    2. ******** In response to JULIAFWOOD's inquiry about Hardy BRIDGES: <<<<Do you know if any of the group below had a son named Hardy BRIDGES. He was born in GA in about 1801, and is found in Greene Co. GA in the census of 1850.I believe that his mother was Cherry POWELL. I was beginning to believe that Hardy was hatched from an egg.>>>> ******** Sorry, Julia. I've not seen or heard the name Hardy BRIDGES yet in my search, but I'll keep my eyes and ears open. As far as the "hatched from an egg" theory, I can definitely commiserate. This geneology thing is a *wonderfully frustrating* way to spend time :-) Good luck in your search-- catgs@aol.com

    2. Regina A. Roper
    3. I cannot seem to make any headway on the origin of my Francis Bridges who was born in NC and lived later in Maury CO TN and then Carroll CO TN as an old man... He was the son of WILLIAM BRIDGES of NC and he married #1 Sarah CADLE/CAUDLE (d/o JESSE and SUSANNA) and #2 widow Matilda Moore. I have been entertaining the idea that perhaps William Bridges of NC was descended from the BRIDGERS family... Does anyone have knowledge of any BRIDGERS with a descendant who fits Francis' profile? I know that there were some of the Bridgers who changed their name to Bridges...one in particular was disowned by his father and later changed his name... Would appreciate any iput from the list Regina Roper

    3. Seeking info. on my gg grandfather, James BRIDGES. I have very few facts to go on and am hopeful the following may ring a bell with someone: We know James Bridges was in the Laney District of Davis Co. (now known as Cass Co.) TX on 31 Dec 1867, because that is when he and his wife (name sadly unknown) had a baby girl, my great grandmother, Willie Melvinia BRIDGES. They already had one child, a boy named John BRIDGES, who was 1-2 years old at this time. A few days after the baby's birth Jame's wife died of complications of childbirth. James BRIDGES remarried rather quickly, a young lady named Fannie (Frances) Spikes (daughter of Martha Spikes.) The 1870 census shows them in the Cusseta section of Davis (now Cass) Co. TX, with a new baby, Benj. M. BRIDGES. This census shows James BRIDGES to be 35 in 1870 and lists his birthplace as GA. The little boy, John's, birthplace is shown to be AL. The baby girl grew up in Cass Co., and married Robert Johnson Dudley, they raised a very large (17 children!) family in Cass Co., they are buried in the Cornett Cemetery in Cass Co. Any clues or help would be appreciated so much.

    3. Hi again to all Bridges researchers I spent an hour at the library last night looking at the Revolutionary War Pension Records Microfil roll. I looked only at Bridges and jotted down notes on each of the ones with last name of Bridges. If it was difficult to read, I skimmed until I could find a birth date and place of pension. Luckily, some of them had typed responses in the files with everything laid out easily so for those I have more. If anyone would like more information on a specific individual, just let me know and I'll check again the next time I go. These are all of the pension records. Not a complete listing of all soldiers. That , I don't have access to. There were 19 in all so I'm listing them in separate e-mails. Hope y'all enjoy.
