Hello! I'm new to this list, but I have GA/AL connections to the BRIDGES family. My GGG'father, Hillard Dillard Bridges was born near Lawrenceville, Gwinnett Co. GA in 1830. I've suspected that his father was a Solomon Bridges. Solomon came from NC as an orphan with his brothers Meschach and Shadrach as apprentices. Unfortunately, the courthouse was burned during Shermans march to Atlanta. Hillard Dillard BRIDGES and his family wound up in St. Clair Co. AL where he was known as Squire BRIDGES. He was a county commissioner and justice of the peace. He was also called the hanging judge. I also saw a reference to Thomas Bowling GAY.... If someone is researching this marriage, it might be worth their while to subscribe to the BOWLING- L@rootsweb.com because the name Thomas is very prominent in much BOWLING research. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Julie Anne Bowling-Williams

There were many, many John Bridges in GA. And can you tell me what county Randolph is in, or is that a county. Most records that we utilize are arranged by county. Hi Sonja; To my knowledge all of my Bridges came from South Carolina. I have seen some information that leeds me to think they may have early roots in North Carolina also. I have not been able to prove that yet. There was a Benjamin Bridges in NC around 1775-1800 who had brothers named James and William along with some others. I have a direct line James Bridges in the early 1800's who named one of his sons William and another Benjamin. So I'm digging around trying to find if they connect. Thanks for writing and let me know if I can help. Bill Bridges.....
Susannah Bridges married Zachariah Robertson in Greene Co. GA 2 Jan 1800. Zachariah died in Putnam Co in 1817 without a will. Zach. is on an 1813 tax list for Putnam Co in Cpt Whitaker's Dist. The 1820 census of Putnam p 93 shows Fansina (sic) Robertson 011000-10001. Next door was son Wiley Robertson 000100-0. Herrod Bridges is on the previous page 100010-20100. He (Herrod) remained in Putnam Co past 1850. Wiley Robertson moved many times: Censuses 1830 Fayette Co., GA., 1840 Talbot Co., GA, 1850 not found, 1860 Tallapoosa Co., AL, 1870 Clay Co., AL. Some things I have seen indicate that Herrod Flournoy Bridges was born in SC. SCR
Bill, My Bridges lived in Jefferson Co., Ark. since before 1870, prior to that, I think they were in Alcorn Co. (Old Tishomingo Co.) Miss. They also wandered across the state line to Hardin Co., Tenn. They came from North Carolina to Tenn. I believe. Where are yours from? Sonja
