    3. Thanks. Although I do not have my materials with me at present, his lady is probably of my BRIDGES family. Springfield, TN and all... Leslie (Bridges) Kohler ----- Original Message ----- <http://tennessean.com> ----------------------------- Monday, 04/26/04 Purnell Sausage co-founder dies at 102 Associated Press SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. -- Clara Bridges Purnell, co-founder of Purnell Sausage Co., died Saturday at her home in Simpsonville. She was 102. Purnell, a native of Springfield, Tenn., helped start the business in 1932 with her husband, Fred B. Purnell Sr. She helped grind and season the meat, packing it in hand-sewn cloth bags marked Purnell's ''Old Folks'' country sausage. The recipe was Fred's mother's, brought from his family's Tennessee farm. The family moved from Nashville to Louisville in 1950. Six years later, the Purnells settled in Simpsonville. The Purnells' plant, 20 miles east of Louisville, produces more than 100,000 pounds of sausage daily that is sold to grocery stores and restaurants in 44 states. The company is family owned and operated. Allen Purnell of Simpsonville said yesterday that he would remember his mother's faith and her outlook on life. ''She thought you ought to keep your mind thinking positive,'' he said. ''She lived what she preached.'' Clara Purnell also is survived by another son, Robert E. Purnell of Louisville; a daughter, Betty Moffett of Simpsonville; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. CDT tomorrow at the Shannon Funeral Home in Simpsonville. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ © Copyright 2002 The Tennessean A Gannett Co. 1. Re: [BRIDGES-L] Graves of some Bridges
    2. Hello Leslie and welcome back. How was your trip? I hope you had fun for all of us. I have been searching the area of middle TN lately as I, finally, found my Robertson line there. My French, Moore, Anderson and Martin lines are of that area. There are many Bridges in middle TN and from observing the families with whom they travel, they could be from the Northhampton, Nash, etc., area of NC. I would love to have a descendant of these middle TN Bridges in our DNA testing. If we keep getting pieces of the puzzle from all over, perhaps we can figure out the whole genealogy picture. It looks like there are no living males from Joseph Bridger of Isle of Wight, VA, as I have sent query after query to find one, stating that I am willing to pay for the testing, but have had no takers. We need to get some British Isles, Bridger / Bridgers / Bridgers / Bridge / Briggs into our DNA Project. Put on your thinking caps. I had more Briggs join our DNA testing last night after I announced our Briggs match. The concept of DNA testing is become more accepted as everyone hears about our successes. I have turned over every rock that I can find in looking for where my John Bridgers who arrived in Hancock Co., GA in 1801 and died there in 1802 came from. I feel, from all my searching that he was from Edgecombe Co., NC. Many clues point that way, but who were his parents? John's wife, Cherry Powell, witnessed the Will of Elizabeth Culpepper in Nash Co., NC in 1784 or 1788. He was a sister to Hugh Powell, but I can't find more than that. My cousin, Johnny Bridges, made a couple of trips last year to NC and VA but found nothing definite. Julia, still searching In a message dated 5/2/2004 3:33:24 AM Central Daylight Time, Aug67@att.net writes: Before I went on my recent trip to Belgium and Holland, I had copied some information from a book titled, "Tennessee Records, Tombstone Inscriptions and Manuscripts", which is housed at the West Valley Genealogical Society Library here in the Phoenix 'Valley of the Sun'. 1. YEA !! New Results Posted in our DNA Project !!
    2. Hello all and thanks for your patience with me. Tax season, almost, did me in this year. I have spent the day updating our DNA Project. We have more DNA matches and the interesting thing is that we have two with the surname of BRIGGS who are only one marker away from a BRIDGES at 12 markers. They have ordered the upgraded test to see if they match at 25 or 37. http://www.small-stuff.com/BRIDGES/ click on "DNA Results" While on the subject of markers, the company, FamilyTreeDNA.com has a new Y-DNA test that reports on 37 markers instead of the old maximum of 25. Several participants are upgrading to this test. The upgrade from 25 is a reasonable cost of $59.00. This is $41.00 less than the 12 markers for the other tests. Another announcement that I have failed to make is that FamilyTreeDNA, also, has a website called ysearch.org, which is listed on your personal webpage at FamilyTreeDNA.com (if you are a DNA participant). Clicking on the link there will enable you to upload your marker results to their new website where they can be matched with thousands more people than in the original database because anyone tested by any company in the world can include their markers there. It is possible to find matches there, that aren't apparent from your webpage. If you have a problem with this upload, I can do it for you on request. I would like you to find participants of all spellings of our name of interest: Bridges, Bridger, Bridgers, Bridge & Briggs and persuade them to join us. We, really, need to get some involvement from Europe if we are to find from whence we came, as it seems that there are not living males of all the lines that began on the early American shores. 3. It is now nearly three years since we welcomed various Bridges researchers to our home for 'An English Tea'. We had a wonderful afternoon and not very many of the beautiful cakes were eaten as everyone was busily exchanging copies of their branch of the Suffolk Bridges' family trees. Quite a few cups of tea were consumed, to refresh us as we were all chatting so much! One of the nicer aspects of the afternoon was the exchanging of old family photographs (do make sure you make plenty of copies before such a get together). Happy hunting everyone :-) Pat ... Every time I find an ancestor - I have to find two more! 3. Leslie, be sure to warm them up for me, for my wife and I will be over in the southern Netherlands June 28-July 11th staying at a friend's house. I think we will skip Belgium this time and focus on Germany and Italy. I look forward to visiting my fourth cousins outside of Heidelberg on my mother's side of the family on this trip. The last two times I had been in Germany, we have not connected, although we have corresponded since the early 1990's. I figure it is about time to meet them! Jim

    3. Hi Velma, No problem here. But, I appreciate the thought. Leslie ----- Original Message ----- From: Vrgfdonna@aol.com I honestly was not meaning to fuss at anyone. I had just wondered about it, and I thought the way to find out was to ask. Thanks for your explanation. I'm very sorry if I shouldn't have asked. I have received a couple of "strange" emails lately posing as genealogy list mail, so I'm examining my email a little closer now even before opening it. It made me a little jittery to click on a clickable URL (which I should not have done) and find myself at a site with the name "Outwar". Thanks again, Velma
