    3. The message below was sent to the Logan County, KY list today. It references neighboring, Robertson County, TN. These two counties are where my BRIDGE / BRIDGER / BRIDGERS / BRIDGES / BRIGGS family went after leaving NC. Leslie (Bridges) Kohler -----Original Message----- From: Ground [mailto:ground@thrifty.net] Sent: Thursday, September 30, 2004 12:11 PM To: KYLOGAN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [KYLOGAN] Fw: Joseph George Washington, Alamo Defender I am researching the life and times of Joseph George Washington, of Robertson County, Tennessee. His father was Andrew Washington, and his mother was Margaret Bridger Washington. Joseph George Washington was born in Southampton County, Virginia, between 1804 and 1807, and by 1820 was living in the northern part of Robertson County, TN, only a mile or so from the Kentucky state line and Logan County, KY. Joseph George Washington traveled with Peter James Bailey III, Daniel Cloud, James Fauntleroy (or Fontleroy), and Joseph Bayliss to Nacogdoches Texas in 1836, where he joined the Voluntary Auxilliary Corps, which was a civilian militia, and from there they traveled to San Antonio de Bexar and died in the Battle of the Alamo, March 6th, 1836. Joseph's brother, Richard A.E. Washington, inherited the land, or 1/2 of the land, that their father bequeated in his will. Andrew Washington died in February 1835, and was buried in Robertson County, TN. With no immediate inheritance from his father's will, Joseph left Tennessee seeking his fortune and exploring land, perhaps as far as Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana, and finally arriving in Texas. I have found that Richard A.E. Washington shot and killed a man and was found guilty. In 1850, Richard A.E. Washington gave a power of attorney to Washington Ryburn. And in 1852 the Ryburns filed an exparte petition in Chacery Couirt requesting permission to sell the land which Sally had inherited, so that they could "move to Western Kentucky". Sally, I believe was Richard A.E. Washington's daughter. Washington & Sally Ryburn's children were listed as minors in this court case by the following names: Dewitt Clinton Ryburn, Martha W. Ryburn, Joseph A. Ryburn, Willie Ryburn, Washington Ryburn. I am seeking any information on the geneology, history, or documentation of the Ryburn descendants, of the descendants of Richard A.E. Washinton, and of the descendants of Amanda Washington, the sister of Joseph George Washington and Richard A.E. Washington. Please respond to me at this email address, if you have any information to share: Ted Alan Ground ground@thrifty.net

    3. Hello Julia, I will have a look at the web site and see if John would be interested in taking part. Just my husband and our son would be eligible, although I am in touch with other Bridges researchers (see listings on www.suffolksurnames.plus.com under Bridges) We have other spellings of the name Brydges and Brygges amongst them. As many people were not able to write properly it was the 'officials' who wrote what they heard, and there was no 'correct way' of writing any of these names, so we have many variants of the same sound and Bridges is one of those with many variants. I always assumed my Fulker to be straightforward until the 1881 Census - I eventually found my great grandad as Falkir! It has been a while since updating our own interests - so here are the people that we are particularly interested in researching in East Anglia. William Bridges born 1633 in Brockdish, Norfolk poss wife, Mary Alston William Bridges born 1668 in Brockdish, Norfolk married Sarah Haward in Cratfield Silvanus Bridges born 1695 Cratfield married Elizabeth Chapman in Fressingfield Silvanus Bridges born Framlingham 1724 married Susan Harvey in Framlingham John Bridges born 1757 Framlingham married Susannah Sparham (daughter of Christopher Sparham and Ann Fruer) in Framlingham John Fruer Bridges born 1791 Framlingham married Sarah Howlett in Framlingham Fruer Bridges born 1824 Framlingham married (1. Ann Fulcher) 2. Susannah Fisk in Framlingham Albert Edward Bridges 1871 born Framlingham married Ethel George Tibbets from Buckinghamshire in Aylesbury, Bucks ??? Fruer Boughton Bridges born 1908 Framlingham married Lillian St Quentin Stygall of Fram., in London John Fruer Bridges of Framlingham married Patricia Helen Fulker of Putney London (with Berkshire ancestry) and our children are - - - Susannah Mary Bridges born Colchester Essex 1975, met Scott Lambert at Uni in the beautiful city of York a few years ago and will marry in his home city of Nottingham in Nottinghamshire next autumn. (fall?) Robert John Fruer Bridges born Bury St Edmunds Suffolk 1980 - still looking for Miss Right !?!?! or should that be Wright :-) Further information on most of the above if anyone has connections or interests. All best wishes, Pat and John ... Every time I find an ancestor - I have to find two more! 3. PS Love your web site, an inspiration to get on and do our family information in a format like this, enjoyed reading it very much. Pat ... www.suffolksurnames.plus.com - is your Suffolk surname listed? They had a daughter Sarah, born in Brierley Hill, Staffordshire, in 1859. I have scoured the Death Index without success, so no idea where or when he died. 3. Hello Liz, Just a note to say hello! Our Bridges are all firmly in the county of Suffolk, the other two main areas for Bridges are Gloucestershire and around the Derbyshire area - and again in East Anglia in Suffolk/Norfolk. I have quite a lot of information on our family and one or two other lines back to about 1500 but I have not come across any connection in your area of research. Happy to help anytime - if I can ;-) Pat ... Every time I find an ancestor - I have to find two more! 1. BRIDGES in Elmwood Cemetery, Springfield, TN
    2. ~~ Leslie ~~
    3. Good morning everyone, When I was last in TN at Elmwood Cemetery in Springfield, I snapped a few pictures of BRIDGES gravestones. One is for a Chas. Clayton BRIDGES (b 16 Jan 1869) and his wife, Bessie May JACKSON (b 1886). If anyone here knows who these people were, I'd appreciate knowing. My BRIDGES were from Robertson County, but I have not yet fit Chas. Clayton or Bessie May into my family. Leslie (Bridges) Kohler

    2. Hi Tim, Sorry that I haven't gotten your results posted to the Bridges website, but I have 10 of these projects going and all the results come in at once and always when I have lots going on in my life. You should upload your markers to ysearch.org by clicking on the orange tab at the right on your personal page at FamilyTreeDNA.com that says "upload to ysearch?". This way you can search for matches in a larger database and while they may not be named Bridges, it will give you a better idea of where your line is from. Your markers look very rare for R1b which is good in that when you get a match, it will really be a match. I did the 37 marker kit and just today got a message that there were no matches for the 12 markers, 25 markers, or 37 markers. The ethnic background points mostly to England, but some pretty good bets for other countries. My Haplogroup is R1b, which is primarily European. I had a computer crash recently and lost the address where the results are posted. If you have it, please send to me. Also, let me know what info you are missing about my family. 3. Roger, I am glad to see your post. This wonderful group of people has been much too quiet lately. My BRIDGES did not migrate to MO until after WWII, so I cannot be of much help except to tell you that there is a Peter BRIDGES buried close to my HUDSON family at Oak Hill Cemetery in Carrollton, Carroll Co, MO. My parents spoke as if they (or someone on Mother's side of the family) had known him. I have a picture of his grave stone somewhere. But, as usual I cannot find it when I want it. She forwarded the original message to me, and my virus checker deleted the attachment, because it was a virus.
