Anyone know anything about this Family Discovery Website? At $59.99 it sounds good, but do they really have the database they are describing? Please respond if you have any personal knowledge about them. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Family Discovery" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected] > Sent: Friday, November 03, 2000 9:45 PM Subject: Greetings fellow Genealogist.... > Greetings Fellow Genealogist: > > We have taken a notice of your interest in genealogy as you have been highly > recommended to us by another genealogical publishing company. I do not know if anyone is sure what Bridges, Bridges creek was named after--it is usually assumed it was Hercule Bridges who held an early patent near the creek. Someone may know more but I think the only mention of Hercule is the patent and it is thought he left no family. A William Bridges married an Elizabeth Pierce (Vaughn) about 1680 and claimed land formerly claimed by Vaughn plus additional land he got patents on. This was also near Pope Creek. He and his only known son William Bridges held the land. (He also had a daughter Mary-don't know what happened to her). The son sold all his Westmoreland land by the early 1740's and moved to what became Prince William. His only known children were William and Mary Bridges both underage when he died in mid 1740's. The Bridges Westmoreland land was sold to Augustine Washington and to Daniel McCarty. ---Nancy Harvey a descendant of John Bridges b. c. 1745 probably in Westmoreland-mother Martha unknown surname (Bridges) (Brown)--father unidentified.
There is a Bridges Creek in Westmoreland Co. (formerly Northumberland Co.),VA where the Popes and Washington families lived in 1600s and 1700s. Does anyone know which Bridges the creek was named after? It exits into the Potomac River. I am looking for a Joseph and Mary Bridges in the 1700s. I don't know where he was born but he died in Frederick Co., VA. Margie Bridges

Thanks for the note, but the info you sent me was meant for someone else. I'm interested Josiah Bridges who was married to Ruth Greenslade. Hope you can forward this on to the correct person. Gerre
Pat, According to one of the Goodspeed Histories, my John BRIDGES (b 1782 NC and s/o Faith RUFFIN & Edwin BRIDGES) had a brother named Brittian. Since I have not been in a position to check this further, I cannot say as to whether these two Brittians are one-in-the-same. Just saw your note. It would be easier to reach me off list since I only subscribe to the digest form and can be slow in reading it. The Bryant name in the book has the following first names listed. Elizabeth Jane, Esther, Gamaliel, James, Pleasant, and Robert. The Wright surnames lists these first names: Elizabeth, Hannah E., Issac G, James C., John H., John M., Nancy, Robert, Thomas B., Willis, Wm. R. I see no Asa or Millie listed. Let me know if one of the above names need a lookup still. Donna Patterson Donna Patterson [email protected] <<http://patterson.family.homepage.com

I am searching for someone who has a George Bridges in there line that was born about 1825 who lived in AL, and went to TN and had a son named Thomas. I have a lot of information on this line of Bridges that I will gladly share. [email protected]
If you want to get feedback, corrections, or additions on any of your lines, be sure to submit your data to the RootsWeb World Connect site at: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/ I have submitted all of my 20,500 names, and the response has been great. I did not submit my references or notes, as I would rather have people contact me, and then I just copy and paste and e-mail them that information. Donna
Hi Judy; Unfortunately, I don't have much more info on Robert A. Bridges other than, according to census records, he was born in 1837. The 1840 Poinsett Co., AR census shows Joseph Bridges with one male under 5 in the household, which I believe to be Robert A. Bridges. The 1850 Poinsett Co., AR census, Mitchell Twp. shows Robert A. living in the household of Lewis W. Bridges and his wife Nancy. On that census, his age is listed as 13. Joseph does not appear on that census, so I believe that he has passed and Robert A. is living with his oldest brother. He is not found on the 1860 census, but neither is his brother George. A small booklet written by my great grandfather Clarence Gilbert Bridges, titled 'Us Bridges' indicates that the family moved to Missouri just prior to the Civil War and returned to Poinsett Co., near the end of the war. George Bridges is present again in Poinsett Co., AR for the 1870 census, but Robert A. is not listed. According to the 'Us Bridges' booklet; "Now my grandpa [George S. Bridges] had two brothers and they were all in the war. None of them ever made it back to their home place so far as grandpa knew." And that is the extent of what I know about Robert A. Bridges... Best Regards and good hunting! Hi Julia; I don't have an exact death date on Joseph, however, He appears on the 1840 Poinsett Co., AR census, but not on the 1850 census, although his children do. Therefore I postulate that he had passed away prior to the 1850 census. Thanks for your response! This is really grasping at straws, but, last night I was checking out a website that lists all Soldiers of 1812, and in Greene Co., GA, in Thomas's Reg't, along with my James BRUCE, there was James BRIDGES, John BRIDGES, and Joseph BRIDGES. I know that James and John were brothers of my Hardy BRIDGES, and am guessing the Joseph was, also, or could have been. Your Joseph could be this same one who served in the War of 1812, and if yours lived long enough to draw a pension, (which would be after 1870, and I am not sure of the date), then the pension file could yield some information about the family. James moved to Attala Co., MS and applied for a pension which Ann Wise so generously placed on her webpage. (and I have lost the address of her page) Fingers crossed, and awaiting your reply.
