Barbara, I found an 1850 census from Knox County, Tennessee that listed George Clapp, age 43, born in N.C., with a 5 year old daughter named Sarah E. Clapp, who born in North Carolina. I found this on Family Search while looking up John Ludwig Clapp, son oh Ludwig and Sophia. Hope this may help a little. Susan, I found a Anna Margaret Clapp on Family Search who was born in 1757 in Orange County, North Carolina and was married to Adam Lugar in 1778 in Guildford County, N.C. I’m not sure if this is who you’re looking for Or not. His parents are not listed but the sources under Anna Margaret Clapp might be helpful. Family Search is free if you don’t have an account. If you have questions don’t hesitate to contact me. Good Morning, I was so happy to find your website as I am in the Lugar family doing research on my great, great, great, great grandfather, Adam Luger Sr. He married Anna, and I am not sure which Anna, whether it is Anna Maria, Margaret, or ? as there are 3 listed for John Ludwig and Anna Margaret Strader about 1730’s to 1750’s. The marriage license, bond, etc. is what I am interested in for: Anna Clapp (Maria, Margaret, may be middle name) Born 1756 Died 1844 • Married in 1777 at the Brick Church in Guilford, NC (they had 10 kids, George, Phoebe, Jacob, Alexander, Barbara, and Adam Jr. Adam Luger, born 3-1-1738 in Frankfort, Germany You are so lucky to have Anna’s ancestors traced back to Geisa Klapp 1619 !!!! I have hit a roadblock with Adam Luger. (Lugar here in the U.S.) I am trying to find his parents, and was hoping the marriage bond may list parents names? I have him traced back to birth in Frankfort, know he was a Hessian soldier who deserted for a land grant, went on to fight for Continental Army, then the N.C. Militia after that. They are both buried in Williams Cemetery in Craig County, VA. (been there many times, was called Lugar Hill, as their son Adam Jr. is there as well as many other relatives). Please let me know if there is anywhere I can find the marriage bond from 1777. Thank you for any help you can give me, and God Bless you for reading this! Hi Michael, I'm hoping I can still reach you at this e-mail address. The last time I was in correspondence with you (2007), you gave me a great deal of information, including the marriage date of Sebastian (Boston) Sharp to Catherine Garrett in 1793. I'm hoping you can confirm that date in some way. The reason for my wanting to know is that I recently had a distant cousin (a descendent of Sebastian's son... Daniel) contact. This cousin also had the date 1793 for the marriage, but is unaware where she got it. The problem we are trying to solve is that according to her family records, Daniel (who married Eva Anthony) was born in 1787. That was before the wedding date. So our dilemma is ... is the wedding year wrong, or is Daniel's birth date wrong, or was Sebastian married to someone else who was the mother of Daniel. Thanks for any help you can give us. I'm still trying to figure out who Mary's b1838, parents are, she married David Fields abt 1853 and her Obit says she was born in Clark Co IN. >From the 1850 census the closest Mary Clapp is with Barbara page 129b, but there is 4 years difference in age. The only other Mary Clapp in the county is 6. However, there are 2 entries for the Barbara group, on page 127b and page 129b, both groups look similar while there are differences. Does any one know who this Barbara was married to as a guy is not listed. In the 1860 census David and Mary are together in New Market but Barbara appears to be not listed in the 1860 census. Thank you Kim Fields
Hi, I am looking for William Hughes, could be Wm or Bill for the first name and Hughs for the last. He was born in NC before 1820. His son, Joseph A. Hughes was born in Saline County, MO in 1835. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Blessings, Andy Lawrence
Mary, I can't recall if I'd mentioned it here, but if so, it's worth repeating in case anyone comes across my Loys mentioned in their ancestor's Colonial-Revolutionary War era papers. A few years ago I found my ancestor Henry Loy served in Revolutionary War 1780-1781 under Capt Hardin Perkins, same as his brother John Loy. (Capt Hardin Perkins was at Battle of Guilford Courthouse. Perhaps the Loy brothers were there too?) I accidentally discovered this while viewing pension file of John Shaddy, who served in same unit. In it, he mentioned Henry Loy served as Ensign. And I recently found data on them gleaned from this pension file in Carolana.com's section "The American Revolution in North Carolina." Henry died in 1798, before pensions started. So I'd only known his older brother John Loy served, due to pension application. John's application was rejected, unable to prove length of service. Besides Loy brothers serving in same unit, also was Tobias Tillman, whose half-sister Catherine married Henry and John's brother George. (Likely, Henry's wife Margaret was another half-sister of Tobias.) This ties more of my direct ancestry (not just ancestral cousins) to Guilford County, besides just Orange County. The 1773 Brick Church records transcript mentions Henry Loyd and Margaret Dillman, who I theorize were my ancestors Henry Loy and future wife Margaret Tillman. Also listed with them was Barbara Thomas, who was named in 1840s LDS death proxy baptism by her LDS pioneer niece Margaret (Loy) Clapp, daughter of George and Catherine (Tillman) Loy. AND...after years of searching for original obituary of my ancestral uncle John Loy from a specific German newspaper, I finally found it last year! Loy researchers from 1940s-1950s made mention of this 11 August 1840 obituary in the Reading [PA] Adler. Since hearing about this as a teen in 1980s, I've wanted to find original German source, to see if English translation was correct or edited. All translated had been "Died in Orange County, NC, 3 May, John Loy age 90." [His War application gave birth 1747, so he'd be closer to 93 at death! And what connection did John have to Reading, PA?] When I finally found newspaper in question and read obituary in German, I was surprised how much info wasn't included. For those unaware of this article, here's my English translation below: -------------------------------------- 11 August 1840 Reading Adler Deaths- In Orange County, in State North Carolina, on 3rd May, Mr. Johann Loy, 90 years old--on 2 June Mr. Heinrich Albrecht, in 82nd life-year--on 10th June, Mr. George Ries, in 80th year of his age--on 5th June, in Guilford county, North Carolina, Mr. Matthias Schwenck, in 89th life-year. These deceased four Fathers were members of the German-Reformed Church, endured the discomfort of the Revolutionary War with each other, fought side by side the battles of their Fatherland, lived later together as friends and neighbors, and declined quickly together in death. May they rest in peace! [Literally, "Peace be with their ashes!"] ---------------------------------------- Notes: Henry Albright's brother Daniel married John Loy's niece Catherine Loy (daughter of George). George "Ries" (in German pronounced Reece) is George Nease, who signed as witness for Henry Albright's military service pension. Matthew Schwenck later became "Swing" and I noticed he and Henry Albright are buried at Brick Church. Without looking at my notes, I do know Swings were listed as deceased cousins to Benjamin Clapp when he and mother Margaret (Loy) Clapp did proxy baptisms in 1840s. From this multi-obituary, one can conclude my ancestor Henry Loy would've made a fifth with those "four Fathers" friends, fighting the War together in same unit. (With Tobias Tillman and John Shaddy, too.) All being members of the German-Reformed Church, it's not impossible Henry and John were once members or at least visited Brick Church with Albright, Nease, and Swing.
