I'm stuck. For weeks now I've been trying to trace the parents of my great great grandfather Charles Copestake born 1851 in Hulland, Derbyshire. The 1851 cenus lists him (just 6 days old) as an 'add on' to another family. I'm assuming this is because of his age - perhaps he wasn't born when his parents completed theres??? Another Ancestry member found there to be 3 familys living in Hulland at the time, the best possibility being a Hannah and Thomas Copestake, both 27. After this census there is no mention of Hannah or Thomas again (not with the birthdates given of 1814). In 1861 there is a Hannah born 1806 living with 2 sons - charles and George. She is listed as 'wife' so I'm assuming the husband is not dead. In 1871 she is listed as living in a work house in Derbyshire. Her sons are now in Lancashire. The only Thomas I can find is a criminal record in 1853 aged 45. He was sentenced to 15 years hard labour in Australia and sailed in 1855 (the year George was born).! Could this be him? How will I know? Is this why Hannah was listed as married, but no sign of William??? If anyone with more experience can help me I'd be so pleased. Thank you.
