At this site http://www.italiangen.org/ The births of the twins Ernest G Loring and Louisa E Loring on 7/17/1907 are indexed in Kings county NY. Also at that site a death of Ernest Loring 1/20/1928, age 62, in Manhattan NY. Seems that the Loring name was in effect at least by 1907. You could try sending for the records.
