Knowing that will help us try to narrow down the possibilities. Have you obtained his death certificate? If so, does it show his parents? Some states filed Delayed Birth Certificates, for instance, as proofs to obtain Social Security numbers. Might he have filed such a Delayed Birth? Is there an obituary that might list him? Ancestry's AL Deaths, 1908-1959 don't show a William Robert dying in 1943. There is this one: Name: William R Stephens Death Date: 22 Apr 1946 Death County: Jefferson Volume: 14 Certificate: 6964 Roll: 4 The only Hood family in 1880 in Chatham Co.
