William Francis Symonds was one of five children born to Francis Baldry Symonds 07 Mar 1842 Swefling, Suffolk died 18 Feb 1892 buried Framlingham, Suffolk and Francis' wife Sarah born 17 Jan 1839 Macclesfield,Cheshire died 1908 or 1911. This family moved from Islington London to Vienna Austria sometime between 1881 (when they appear on that census) and 1891 (no trace on that census). William's siblings, all born Islington were, Harry born 1871 died 1918 Norfolk, Frederick born 1872 died 04 Dec 1944 Kingston upon Thames, Jessie born 1877 no death details and Ellen born 1879 no death details. We know that William married Gretl, presumably Austrian and have postcards from Vienna dating from 1933 signed Onkel Willy and Tante Gretl. We know that William was 70 in June 1939 in Vienna. We know that Jessie had at least one daughter, Hilde, who was seriously ill with leukemia in Vienna in 1939. We believe Harry may have had 2 children, Harold and Emmy, of whom no further details. We know that Francis Baldry Symonds, his wife and 2 sons Harry and Frederick returned to England either together or separately. Frederick appears on 1901 census with first wife Rosina. My wife and I would be most grateful for any information on those whom we believe remained in Vienna at the outbreak of WW2, namely, William Francis, Jessie and Ellen and whatever family details you can provide. Thank you all in advance. Norman Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
