Missing ancestors are common too, and become more so the further back you go. You might want to post what you already know; where you found him last, when and where the last know child of his was born. You mention a marriage registration, place, date, to whom? Are there parents listed on it? If you post specific info and the sources you are using to search, this helps others assess where you might look next.
