A cousin said that he died. Bessie's 1930 NY Census says that she is a widow. We can't find anything on where he died, when, how, etc. We don't know if he actually died or She left him.... Bessie Shapiro/Miller had numerous spellings of her Maiden name: Wawelksi Wawelksi Vehyovisky Wavelski Velgovisky Williviksky Willivitsky Velgovisky. We don't know which is right, and can't find too much on any of them...these names are on each of her 6 child's birth certificates. Born: 29 Jul 1874 in Russia/Poland Death abt 1958 in Long Beach, Nassau, New York, USA Arrival in NY: 1904 They had 6 children total, 4 of the 6 lived: Lizzie Betty Shapiro Miller Kessler- 1892 - 1955 Born in Russia, came to the US in 1904 Baby Shapiro - 1905 - 1905 Born/Died in Chicago, IL Benjamin (Bennie) R. Shapiro Mille r- 1905 - 1966 Born in Chicago, IL Died in Vienna, VA Ettie Shapiro - 1907 - 1908 Born/Died in Chicago, IL Janice Clara Claire Shapiro Miller Friedman - 1907 - 1994 Born in Chicago, IL Not 100% sure where she died Jacob Jack Shapiro Miller - 1909 - 1990 Born in Chicago, IL Died in Miami, Fl They all changed their last names to Miller in between 1920's-1930's -ish. Became perm. in 1952. Not sure if Philip Shapiro changed his name or not. Any help would be great. We have tried to contact family members, and they will not help us figure all this out.
