His death certificate could have his parents' names on it. Have you located his will/probate records? Those probably won't have his parents but they may have his siblings -- which could help you piece together the family later on. How about published biographies and local history books? Those often had the person's parents in them. Do you know where he is buried? I found my ancestor's mother this way -- she was buried in the same plot! Where did he live most of his life?
