You can't do all of your research from the comfort of your chair. Begin with yourself and work backward. Document everything, which means obtaining birth, marriage, and death certs., military records, finding family in census records and street directories. Get a book or two from the library, local LDS centre, or local family history society on beginning family research. >From your tree on Ancestry.com it appears the majority of your family lived in North Carolina. Try posting the particulars of your research on the appropriate North Carolina board and perhaps someone can point you in the right direction.
