Well my grandfather was always William to us. His head stone even reads William. After his death and not long before hers my grandmother told me she was not my grandmother. His name was not william and he had left a wife and child in NY to come to VA So always keep digging further. My grandfathers name was Willard. Once I got his real name I could find him. Now my real grandmother was raised by her grandparents and when she got married she used their last name. I recently found out that was not her maiden name when I sent for her death certificate and wham all of a sudden there she is on all the records. Also when searching immigration dont rely souly on that that birth year. It took me years and years to find out my ggrandfather is listed as being 18. Ok all the men in our family are way over 6 ft tall so it dawned on me with all the other half truths look for years near his birth year and sure enough I traced him after many weeks of searching to make sure I had the right person. He was 14 when he came over and lied about his age. If nothing else all the proof we have to provide now on who we are is sure going to make it easier for future generations than we had.
