I was in too much of a hurry. I was following the rule that the area in which people marry is usually the place they also lived. In this case it was not true for Arthur. It does not help with the research that Carrie was divorced in 1900 and in 1910. I could not find a marriage record for Carrie. It could just be those records are not online yet. Sorry about the mistake. Sandra Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. One lists Alek, another lists Axel, and another lists Alexander Knutson as their father. Guy, Meda, Francis, and Arthur are siblings per both Guy and Meda's obituary listings. Additionally, on Arthurs draft registration, His employer is listed as Newell Corliss, Meda's Husband. I have found Nothing on Axel/Alek/Alexander Knutson at all. He never shows in the census with the family, and his name only appears on SSI apps and some death certs I have. Arthur Carl Knutson to Georgia Ann Lenon on 1 Nov 1937 in Lake, , Montana. Arthur was 43. His parents were Axel Knutson and Carrie Clatt Georgia was 55. Her parents were John Dee Powell and Rebecca Emily Burch. I was able to locate Axel and Carrie/Caroline in Beeker Co., Minnesota in 1930, 1920, and 1910. I could not find them on the 1910 census in HeritageQuestonline. (Familysearch lists the basic info, but you cannot access the image and the family number and page number they provide are incorrect.) However, both the 1930 and 1920 census have the Knutson family immigrating to the US in 1899. Their oldest son in the 1920 census is Thomas and he was born in Norway in 1897. If this is correct than Arthur would also have been born in Norway. I found a couple of death certificates for that may be long to Axel and Caroline both in Meeker Co., MN. You can order them online. The one for Axel 7 May 1952. The one for Caroline on 3 Jan 1934 1930 Meeker, MN Axel Knutson 50 Norway Caroline Knutson 53 Norway Charlie O Knutson 28 Minnesota Algot C. Knutson 22 MN 1920 Meeker MN. There's a listing of Elmwood Cemetery burials in this online book: http://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/003870381 NOTE: This book is NOT searchable. The site "pretends" that it is, but it is NOT. You would need to browse through it. ALSO, These are only volumes 1-2. Volumes 3-4 are not online. If Lena's not in 1-2, then you would need to get those books via InterLibrary Loan. Lena should be listed in one of these, since the books were published in 1936. It's likely that her husband is buried next to her. His listing would give you his death date which would help you in tracking down his probate records. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. For instance, for the first name, use "Bern*" and for the surname, "Nard*" which should pull up most spelling variations. Granted, there will be many that are not yours, but it's casting a bigger net to grab those misspellings and variant spellings. U?) Montgomery (Richardson) is apparently the daughter of Dr. James Montgomery of Maryland. Searching for him in Google was not too difficult. Google Books alluded to a 1978 issue of the Maryland Genealogical Society in 1978. The only excerpt shown in the link was: "for Dr. JAMES MONTGOMERY and CAROLINE his wife, their daughter, SARAH AUGUSTA, bom July 25th 1838 1839: Feb. 11th Baptized by the Right Rev'd Bishop DOANE," Ancestry records show a Dr. James Montgomery marrying a Dr. Caroline Kennedy on 6 April 1831 in Harford Co., MD. In GenealogyBank, the Maryland Sun of Aug. 25, 1915, has an historical obituary (copy attached): "RICHARDSON-- On August 18, 1915, at Concord, Tenn., SALLIE A. widow of Dr. Summerfield Richardson and daughter of Dr. James Montgomery, deceased. Interment at Westminster, Md., of which due notice will be given." [note that Sallie is often a nickname for Sarah. Even if they civilly married, it may have been "blessed" at a later, and if the were Catholics, whether on not they were married in the Catholic church, it's highly likely their children were baptized in it. How to find that church? You search the city directory for where they were living and find the closest Catholic church, and one that served the Italian immigrant community. These are records you should try and find. You may find associated family members within them, ie, as godparents. This helps create a cohesive family to work from.
