If you take the time to lay out what you have thus far, the resources you've already covered, and what specifically you're looking, others may be able to help you. Posting for "more information/lineage/family" doesn't tell what you already have and know. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: dklart Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/426.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I see you've posted variations of this query on several other boards. By the time you're researching on-site, you should have pinpointed enough data to insure you make the most of your travel and research time. You really have to know what specifically you're looking for and the probability of finding it. You should have a good understanding of the holdings of the State Historical Archive, local Historical/Genealogical Societies (which sometimes work in conjunction with local libraries) prior to appearing at their door. You may also need to make appointments to book research time. There are documents you should already have in hand. The death certificate may have clues to the names of the parents of the deceased, however that data is secondary, not from the horses mouth. The next document to find is the marriage record, this record is the best bet for parents names. The data on a marriage record is primary source, however there is room for error in an record. Researching siblings of your direct line is another way to find data on the previous generation, they shared the same parents. Finding vital records pre-1900 is subjective, it all depends on the State you're researching in. The best way to learn how and when a particular State instituted recording vital data is to google "vital records" and the State name, and also googling "genealogy" and the state and county names you're seeking data in. In general, don't expect to find State recorded vital data/records pre-1900. Pre-1900, vital data (birth/bap, marriage, death/burial) was recorded by the church/parish. You'll need to know what faith your ancestors practiced. Look in the library catalog on familysearch.org in the areas you're researching in, for records that have been filmed. You can order this film (for a nominal fee) on-line have it sent to a local FHC near you. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have always been so fascinated by the stories, I didn't get all of the names from the document. The Almon Hunt Memories is on the page I listed on my last post. There are two parts because of the way I had to save it so it was readable made it a large file. I couldn't attach the file here, they only allow photographs. Part two mentions William. Please let me know if you agree. Almon is Hiel's second oldest. :) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am a direct descendant of Hiel Hunt and have worked on his line. I do not have his siblings yet. If you check my page, you can see his children and his father's page, too. Hiel's father, Jonathan, was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. That much is from family records and documentation found. I have sent for Hiel's obituary but have not received it yet, I'm hoping for siblings. This is what I know so far, based mostly on family records. http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/15409560/person/485123759 Click to Hiel. If you think I can help in any way, please let me know. Oh, and I was just reading on something called the "Firelands" "Fire Lands" as they were called in the early 1800's which was Huron/Erie Counties in Ohio. Land given because of the fires from British invasion during the Rev. War period. Whether or not even Hiel got his property that way, I do not know. I almost suspect not because of one of the "Almon Hunt" stories I have posted on Hiel and Jonathan's page. There were many Hunts that lived in the Huron County area, and there is a place called "Hunt's Corners", you can google that. I suspect many were related, but don't know for sure. Please let me know if I can help in any way. And, please, if you research and find any link to Hiel - I'd love to know! I want to fill in his siblings!! Did you try a search here? If you know the spouse, it may show up. https://familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&query=+givenname:Hiel~ +surname:Hunt~&collection_id=1784223 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This is what I know about him: Born - 29 January 1854; Died - 11 August 1904; Married Sarah Jane Davis in 1880; Found him, for sure, in the 1880 and 1900 Census. He could also be in the 1860 and 1870, but I'm not 100% on that. I was told he was an alcoholic and Sarah divorced him. In the 1910 census, she is listed as widowed though. So, I guess I want to know more. I can't find any record of him dying, but other trees have the same date as me. Not sure how that came about. Also absolutely no pictures anywhere. What can I do, where can I go? I also believe he worked at the Lorain, Ohio Steel Plant. Would they carry some record on him? I want to leave no stone unturned. Thanks to anyone that can point me in the right direction. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
