Author: LHSwisher Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/106.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Arico or Enrico don't sound like aliases as much as nicknames. Enrico would be Italian for Henry, and a common nickname for Henry is Harry. Perhaps Arico is a nickname for Enrico. FamilySearch Pilot Search shows the actual marriage certificate for Arico and Flora on 28 Sept. 1903; actual birth certificates for Carmen (13 Aug. 1904; address 291 W. Polk; Flora Albano and Arico Sarno); "Unenciato" (21 Aug. 1905; 291 W. Polk; Flora Albano and Arico Sarno, labor); John (21 Nov. 1907, 322 W. Taylor St.; Florence Albano and Arico Sarno, baker); and Frangisco (12 Feb 1911; 853 S. Morgan; parents Raffaela Albano and Enrico Sarno). I did not see one for Genevieve but there may be a different spelling I overlooked. You may find it if you have a DOB. Author: dklart Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/106.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I see your dilemma. I found a record for Enrico Sarno Border Crossings: From U.S. to Canada, 1908-1935 > Ontario > Manifests > 1925 > June 14 He attempted to cross into Windsor, Ontario. He states h e is from Naples, Italy, and Ohio. "Claims" his nationality is US citizen. Speaks English, is Roman Catholic, is a pool room proprietor. Claims he's coming to Canada to visit, but gives no specific info about his destination other that "Windsor". He gave Florence Sarno, Naples, Italy as his closest relative. He has $20.00. His admittance was rejected with no appeal. In the 1920 Census there is: Name: Harry Sarno Home in 1920: Cincinnati Ward 6, Hamilton, Ohio Age: 42 Estimated birth year: abt 1878 Birthplace: Italy He is married but living alone, he's a shoemaker, is this your Harry? Have you found Carmen Sarno in the 1930 census? Was he married at that time? Did Florence (Albano) Sarno return to the US? Do you know when? Do you have any of birth certificates for Carmen's siblings? Where are they in 1930? Can you post the link, or the specific location (town, county, state) of the 1920 census you mention you found the family in? I would spend the time to research for the baptismal records for Carmen and siblings, have you attempted to do that? Those might give you more info on the family. I would imagine the church marriage record of Florence (Raffaela) and (Harry) Enrico might be found in the same place as the baps. Florence was 13-14 years old? Have you found the immigration records of any of those that were born in Italy? Post whatever you might know further and will see if your puzzle can be put together. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: smizevitz Surnames: Sarno, Riggio, Albano Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/106/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My Grandfather Carmen SARNO was born in Cook Co. Chicago Illinois, 13 Sep 1904 and has 4 siblings; Alice(nunciata), John, Frank and Genevieve all born to Florence (Flora) ALBANO and Arico (Arice) SARNO. I can find them on the 1920 census, Florence lists herself as a widow but she is not as my Mother meets Arico (her Grandfather)years later around 1944. According to my grandfathers birth cert.his father is listed as Arice or Arico, my family called him "Harry". On his WW1 draft card he has both the name HARRY and ENRICO SARNO, living in Cincinnati, Ohio. Claims his birthdate is 5 July 1878, wife is Florence SARNO who is living in salerno, Italy. I find a ww2 draft card with address 1.5 miles away from the ww1 draft card address in Cin. ohio but this Enrico SARNO lists birthdate as 5 May 1879. He is married to a Sallie SARNO. They are buried together in Cin. Ohio at Greenbush cemetery. I haven't been able to locate a census record for them or marriage to tie this to the WW1 Enrico so I am uncertain if I have the same man. If Enrico was not a naturalized citizen (alien) would it be common for him to change his given name so much in order to stay one step ahead of the government? The only other information I have is a 1910 census that I believe is Arico and Florence living with Florence's father Giovanni (John) Albano on Polk street in Chicago. The children Carmen, Alice and John are listed and the ages match up. Also on Carmens birth cert. it shows the address as Polk street. Trouble is, Florence is listed as Raffaela or Baffaela Riggio and husband Salmon. I feel like I am chasing a criminal here or something with all these alias names but not sure. It would be a HUGE coincidence for this not to be the same people. Can anyone help me sort this out or help confirm. Thank you! The diocese archivist might be able to give you a lead about orders. Do you know the parish the family belonged to? Ask about what order the parish nuns were from, chances are there is a connection to be found following what was familiar and local.
