My great-grandfather also lied about his age, he was 15 when he said he was 19. Luckily we knew this and his name and origin were not so common that we could not have found him otherwise. Also, luckily we all know the story and i am putting together the family history know but who knows, in the future someone may have attempted to to find more about their ancestors and they may have run into my mom's birth certificate. They would have had no luck as her fathers first name is listed and her stepfathers last name listed. Anyway, I agree. /JMSC/ Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Though he would have been older many of my greats born around that time served in WWII and the older mens' draft cards are luckily here on acnestry. If not, whereabouts do you believe he may have been "murdered or hit by a train"? In one of the Carolinas? Try newspapers articles or sources that would list local happenings. Also, are there any other distant relatives you may be able to uncover who might know something? Maybe his brothers or sisters grandchild or something like that? 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: danielleandrea1 Surnames: Saggers, Neville, Clamp , Wallace Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/116/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm trying to find any info on my great grandmother's family. I have been unable to find names for either of her parents or a birth record for her. My Nana tells me that her mother told her she was born in London around 1880, and she never spoke of any siblings. She married John Clamp in 1897 in Hemsworth and lists her father as Frederick Arthur Saggers, but on her second marriage certificate in 1919 she lists her father as Frederick Wallace. She states he was an actor and she lists herself as an actress who went by the stage name Daisy Neville. If anyone knows anything about this woman her family is a mystery to me and I would love to be able give my Nana some insight into her mother's background. Thanks, Danielle Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: kvolante1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/112/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Dont ask me why but through out history folks have lied. Well my grandfather was always William to us. His head stone even reads William. After his death and not long before hers my grandmother told me she was not my grandmother. His name was not william and he had left a wife and child in NY to come to VA So always keep digging further. My grandfathers name was Willard. Once I got his real name I could find him. Now my real grandmother was raised by her grandparents and when she got married she used their last name. I recently found out that was not her maiden name when I sent for her death certificate and wham all of a sudden there she is on all the records. Also when searching immigration dont rely souly on that that birth year. It took me years and years to find out my ggrandfather is listed as being 18. Ok all the men in our family are way over 6 ft tall so it dawned on me with all the other half truths look for years near his birth year and sure enough I traced him after many weeks of searching to make sure I had the right person. He was 14 when he came over and lied about his age. If nothing else all the proof we have to provide now on who we are is sure going to make it easier for future generations than we had. Author: julienuno Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/110.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I had found all of the information below except Julia was born in 1902 and immigrated in 1920 at 18. Michael was born in 1898, died about 1941 of a brain tumor. He did have a sister, Annie Retter (Ritter). He also had a brother Andrew. I actually went to school with Annie's granddaughter. She is my next contact and hopefully I will be able to locate her. George Sipos (41) was either his uncle or his father. I have looked and have not found Julia's naturalization papers or Michaels for that matter. That one I have missed. I may have looked in the wrong area. I am going to go to our local courthouse to see if I can find any information in the archives or my only other hope is to contact vital records in Harrisburg for their marriage license or Julia's or Elsie's death certificate along with my mother's (Elsie) birth certificate. All I have on Elsie personally is her baptism record. My Grandmother (Julia) always used the name Sipos and it is possible she married as soon as! she departed the ship. Then that would mean they were married in New York City in 1920. But Michaels registration says he was in Philadelphia when he signed for the draft and was single. As far as the Sepos spelling, I do believe it was the person taking the information that made a mistake. Nothing else comes up Sepos. I am not giving up....just keep breaking the wall, one brick at a time. Thanks though. Any other info will always be accepted.
