If it was the RN, look at "The National Archives" - put into Google or any search engine and make sure it is the UK archives you look at. If it was the RAN, try the Australian Archives. Or the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. Have you tried the birth, death and marriages for the relevant state/country that he died in? Do you know approximate year of death ie after someones birth etc? More information is needed for us to give you any help. This is the same district John Fowler is listed in. I pointing this out because we find Daniel in the household of James T. Hardin in 1850. If they arrived 1849 with John Fowler, one would expect that a family group would be together until that got settled. We have Elizabeth Hardin, 26, whom we know is a Fowler. We have Daniel Fowler, 33, and I suspect sister to Daniel. we have Mary Fowler who is 20 years older than Daniel at 53 years old. Author: fowlerfamily2001 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/126.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Ruth, I am a descendant of William Fowler of Fentress Co., TN. William Fowler was brother to John Fowler of Hopkins County, Kentucky. I haven't done much research on John's line but saw your post and am now in the process of tracing all the Fowlers of Hopkins and Webster Counties, Kentucky. I do not believe Daniel is son of John Fowler but he is definitely of the family. On May 17, 1849, John Fowler of Hopkins County, Kentucky wrote his brother Moody Fowler of Granville County, North Carolina informing him of their arrival at THOMAS FOWLER'S on April 26 after a 46-day journey. In this letter, he also informs Moody that he saw "brother William" who is living in Fentrys [Fentress] County, Tennessee. This letter is published in part in the book "House of Fowler" by Grover Parsons Fowler. >From this letter, we learn that John Fowler of Hopkins County, Ky; William Fowler of Fentress County, Tennessee; and Moody Fowler of Granville County, North Carolina are brothers. We also have both time and place for the departure and arrival of John Fowler and his family and we know that John Fowler arrived at Thomas Fowler's home in Hopkins County. We know he left Granville County, NC in March of 1849 and arrived in Hopkins County, Kentucky April 26, 1849. So, I began matching Fowler marriages in Granville County, North Carolina with families enumerated in the 1850 census for Hopkins County, Kentucky. There's lots and lots of them but SURPRISE! I will supply you with that when I am done but one family is of particular interest to you, James T. Hardin whom married Elizabeth Fowler in Granville County, NC on 14 Oct 1842. Daniel Fowler 33. He is Indexed as "Danl Fowler Hardin" because there are ditto marks after Fowler. At this point I am not sure Mary is Fowler or Hardin but if she is a Fowler, we may have his mother. James T. Hardin, District 2, Hopkins Co., KY, HH#649, dtd 2 September 1850 James T Hardin 29 Elizabeth Hardin 26 Mary A Hardin 4 Joseph D Hardin 2 Danl Fowler 33 Mary Fowler 53 Kirk Fowler [email protected] Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: TeresaMayE Surnames: Walker, Kelley, Kelly Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/135/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I'm trying to get information on my ggg-grandfather, Israel Kelly/Kelley (born 19 Feb 1801) and his brother, George (born 20 March 1802). Some of the censuses say that they were born in Pennsylvania, some say New York. Here is a quote concerning how the Walker family would tie in with my Kelly/Kelleys. "Jesse Walker brought two homeless boys with him from Philadelphia when he came into Lackawaxen township. They worked for him at the Narrows until of age and for some years after, for which they claim they never received adequate remuneration. Be that as it may, when these two young men, Israel Kelly and George Kelly, started life for themselves, they went up on the hills back of Rowland's, by honest industry cleared up a good farm and gained a competence. Israel married Ephraim Kimble's sister and one of his sons, Randall Kelly, is a leading merchant at the Narrows, or Kimble's Station, as it is now called, and his Uncle George, who was never married, lives with him, aged eighty-four." History of Wayne, Pike and Monroe counties, Pennsylvania, Mathews, Alfred, Philadelphia, R. T. Peck & Co., 1886 In 1810, I believe they are listed in the census in Jesse's household in Damascus Township, in what was Northampton County, and what would become Wayne County. Jesse's nephew, Peter Walker came up with him to NE PA. Jesse Walker 2 males < 10 (Israel & George Kelly), 1 male 10-5 (Wm R. Walker), 1 male 16-25 (Peter Walker), 1 male 26-44 (Jesse Walker), 1 female 16-25 (Peter's wife?), 1 female 26-44 (Catharine Walker?} There was a mill that Joseph Walker, Jesse and Enoch's father, owned. Enoch was listed in charge of the Lackawaxen property in the "History of Lewis Walker and his descendants". Jesse is also listed in one of the tax censuses as Jesse Walker, Esq. My question is this: how would I learn of the history of these two boys? Children of this age were indentured out by their families, sometimes as apprentices. Does anyone know of any way that I can find out if there are records listing them as indentured by the Walkers, or under the guardianship of the Walkers? Thank you for any help!!! 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: vzubie Surnames: Marshall Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/134/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My grandfather, John (Jack) Marshall was born in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland on July 18, 1902. He moved to Canada and married my grandmother, Agnes McLeod in 1924. In 1940, he joined the Canadian Army and saw active duty in the UK and Europe during WWII. After the war, he came back to Canada to get his discharge and decided to move to Antwerp, Belgium to be with his girlfriend, Yvonne. My 80 year old mom hasn't heard from him since 1965 - and he wasn't well then. Unfortunately, she has long since lost any letters that she received from him, so I don't have any address and I don't know Yvonne's last name. I do know that they weren't able to get married because my grandmother (who was quite a piece of work) wouldn't grant him a divorce. I have been trying to find out what happened to him and give my mom some closure. I have contacted both the British and Canadian Consulates in Belgium, but they have not been able to help me. I also contacted Antwerp, but they cannot give me any information without a date of death. I was able to attain his army record, but unfortunately because I don't have proof of death, they have blanked out all personal information. I have also been in touch with his home town, but the only info that they have on him is his birth info. They were able to give me names of his relatives there and through the wonders of Facebook, I have found his great-niece! Unfortunately, she didn't even realize that her grandfather had siblings - so I hit another brick wall. I'm getting so frustrated with this! I have come so far - considering all I had when I started was his name and that he was born somewhere in Scotland. My mom knew absolutely nothing about his family at all so this has all been pretty amazing for her. Now, I just have to find the missing piece. I would appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks a bunch! Donna Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Here is what I was able to find out. Lawrence C. Whelan died in the Boston General Hospital 3 Mar 1898. He married Bridget (Cashen/Cashman). Bridget died before 1891 as she is not in the 1891 Nova Scotia Census. They married 1 Mar 1859 at St. Ninian's Cathedran in Antigonish. William James Whelan was baptized 4 Feb 1860 (St. Ninian's). He married Annie McInnis on 24 Nov 1885 at St. Ninian's. Mary Ann Whelan born 25 Sep 1863. Baptized 18 Oct 1863, St. Ninian's. Alice born 18 Feb 1867, Bridget born 23 May 1869, Annie born 3 Feb 1871. In the 1861 Sydney, Nova Scotia (Antigonish Co.) census there is a Lawrence Whelan living next door to an Edward Whelan. Possibly brother, because there is an older Edward Whelan living in Antigonish at the same time. He would have been born in 1801 in Ireland. I will continue to search further. Footnote has nothing on Canadian resources as does Genealogybank (only US newspapers)! . The above info was obtained through Ancestry, Familysearch and the Antigonish Genealogy site. Hope this helps some. Lyla Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
